Wake kick off time
Has anyone heard of a kick off time? Nothing listed at appstatesports.com Doing some long-range planning.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Wake kick off time
Four years many would have said half past never, so sweet it is reality now.
It probably will not be known until the SSU game as tv can dictate two weeks before hand, if no tv it'll be 3:30.

Re: Wake kick off time
Last rumor I heard is that ESPN is considering this game for a Friday night (outside of a standard slot on Saturday) but I'd guess we won't know until after the UGA game result.

Re: Wake kick off time
Win against UGA doesn't change the fact that we'd be playing Wake. It would probably only negatively affect how they are looked at the rest of the season. Miami was much more attractive for a noon game on Saturday especially after we kept it close with Tennessee. Not sure how ESPN feels about a Saturday slot taken up by a lower mid ACC team and a Sun Belt team. That's not to take anything away from our program, but in t.v. land it's more about ratings, viewership, and money.
I would be quite alright with a Friday night game if it meant we were put on ESPN. Wouldn't want to compete with the NFL for Thursday, and middle of the week is tough for most.

Re: Wake kick off time
It would be pretty late in the game to change a game to a Friday night as of today much less a month from now. We didn't want to change the Miami to a Friday with three months notice last year, I don't think that rumor is reliable.ASUGoose wrote:Last rumor I heard is that ESPN is considering this game for a Friday night (outside of a standard slot on Saturday) but I'd guess we won't know until after the UGA game result.

Re: Wake kick off time
Yeah I don't buy that rumor. Tough to move the game off a Saturday after you've already sold a bunch of tickets to people who need to make travel plans.
Plus that would be bad for us anyway, for the same reason we didn't want Miami on a Friday night. We want all the fans and recruits in our stadium, not missing the game because their HS is playing and pissed at us for scheduling opposite them. Save the weeknight games for Sun Belt play.
That Saturday's a pretty decent lineup, as a lot of the power conferences are beginning conference play, so I don't know how likely it is ESPN would want the game. I could see it if we scare UGA or certainly if we beat them. Wake obviously isn't a big-name program, but they did win a bowl game last year and they'll probably be 3-0 headed into our game.

That might even be enough to get Gameday to campus. Don't know, without looking, who else is playing week 4 though.AtlAppMan wrote:Win the UGA game and it might be on ESPN

Re: Wake kick off time
If we beat UGA and Wake looks good it would be an interesting matchup that could have NY6 implications. That would be the possible interest for ESPN.

Re: Wake kick off time
There aren't that many great games that day:
UCLA @ Stanford
Oklahoma @ Baylor
NCSU @ FSU
Toledo @ Miami (FL) - this could be a great game.
Although Wake doesn't have anyone before us to add any hype, so unless we beat UGA I don't think it's on ESPN. I'd bet it'll be on regional TV at 3:30.

Has the Wake game sold out?

ESPN has rights to it though (it's already listed as on ESPN3) so I'm not sure how a regional telecast would work.Saint3333 wrote:There aren't that many great games that day:

Also with State-FSU and Duke-UNC that day, it probably wouldn't be the best idea for a regional network to go head-to-head with either of those games anyway.
Also that week:
USC-Cal
Penn State-Iowa
Arkansas-Texas A&M
Florida-Kentucky
Alabama-Vanderbilt
TCU-Ok. State
Texas Tech-Houston
I assume some of those will be on CBS or Fox, of course.
Notre Dame @ Michigan State is in prime time that day, but it's on Fox.

No. Presumably we won't know a ticket count on it until public sale starts a week from today.MtnDevil95 wrote:Has the Wake game sold out?

Re: Wake kick off time
Thank you EastHall.
I agree, given FSU-NCSU and Duke-UNC sharing that Saturday regional coverage is going to be a tough sell. Nationally the Notre Dame - Michigan St is likely the most interesting match-up. September Gameday locations can be varied though. The Gaemday crew has been known to hit up "smaller" venues in September before the big conference rivalry games and the BCS rankings make an impact. I still don't think it's likely, but an upset in Athens, 10 years after the ATU, could turn the national spotlight back to Boone and give Kirk and company a good excuse to be in Boone for the Wake game . . . .

Re: Wake kick off time
I would rather it not be on tv at all than be on ESPN 2 at 12. 12 for Miami was brutal especially for students. You had to be in line by 10 or so, literally no time to tailgate and you are dead by the time the game even starts.
