We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
Isn't it in the masterplan what the future of the legends area is? A new hotel/green space right?

Oh nice, a starbucks on Campus! haha, kidding. Or maybe even a car wash!
Would love to see more small boutique hotels on 1-2 acre sized lots. Anywhere we can get em!

And the master plan has a P3 full service hotel and parking garage wrapped around that back corner. Maybe there's some third party that's going to take us up on the offer of using that land....

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
Any word on where they plan to pick up more parking to replace these lots? Legends is the lot I have been assigned for several years even though I pay above that level. I know there is a deck planned for behind the Holmes Center but those spaces would only help with the current tight parking issues.

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
Actually, Duncan has nothing to do with the creek (at least for now).
Duncan Hall will be fully gutted next year and renovated.
Peacock's addition will likely begin in Fall 23 as well.
At least part of Duncan lot will be taken for staging of materials and equipment for these projects.

That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

They are working to add spaces to the current lots and they will be renting multiple lots within walking distance.AppYosef! wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 12:57 pmAny word on where they plan to pick up more parking to replace these lots? Holmes Parking Deck Project: https://www.appstate.edu/appalachians-f ... lmes-deck/
Status
In March 2022, App State’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved a motion to build the Holmes Parking Deck. The project received approval from the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors at the board’s May 26, 2022, meeting.
Planning and design for the project began in spring 2022 and continued throughout summer 2022. Architecture firm Lord Aeck Sargent performed a conceptual design study for the project, which was completed in June 2022.
The university has selected New Atlantic, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as the contractor that will both design and build the deck. Construction is slated to begin in spring 2023.
Holmes Parking Deck is anticipated to open for the fall 2024 semester.

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
It was an eyesore for sure, but at least had some space. We have none anywhere anymore. Our campus is still beautiful but with the exception of Smith-Wright and Chappel Wilson, we look like an urban campus. Still my first favorite but with West Chester my second, Davidson 3rd, Duke 4th. But that's just me.

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
Large parking lots are so bad for water quality and flooding. Had the parking area had a semipermeable surface it would not had been so bad but I'll take what we have now EVERY single time. It could be better but a move in the right direction and coupled with daylighting the creek that part of campus is going to be beautiful. The area that was redone a few years ago is so nice and the adds so much to the visual of the campus.NewApp wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 6:52 am

I do appreciate the way Davidson is built with so much green space but they have maintained a 2,000 enrollment for a century and I assume never plan to expand. And they have a huge endowment so likely don't feel the need to grow.

A bit of inflation is a good thing, especially compared to deflation.

True , but 2% is the target not 8%.
The fed is now attempting to fix the issue it created.

70% of the inflation number over the last year has gone exclusively to increases in corporate profits....
Why on Earth is this thread now talking about inflation?

No you are vastly underselling a 300% difference, but that narrative is one you don’t want to engage in.
Next you’re going to lie to me and tell me gas is cheaper now then January 2021 like someone else I know.

Highlander, I won't get into this thread except to say you are exactly right. Econ classes or not.

Re: Duncan and Legends Parking Gone
Bit "an indefinite usually small degree, extent, or amount" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bit
I can't stop you from adding words to what I typed but I typed "bit" and meant it and really nothing more.
Gas is more expensive and if that drives the miles people are driving to lower amounts and looking at less polluting alternatives then I don't see that as a bad thing. And if that moves us away from having to suck the "D" of despots then all the better in the long run for our own national security. That and the record profits fossil fuel companies are recording needs to be addressed.
Also US inflation is lower than most other countries with advanced economies.
That is not to say I like seeing the inflation we are having but this is not hyper inflation and still better than deflation.
