Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
How do I say this….
ABSOLUTE NO BRAINER. The GOAT, and I’m not one to throw that around a lot.
The things he could do on the field years ago, to this day…still blow my mind.
GO APPS!!

There are a lot of good names on there, I haven't looked on how many make it in but wouldn't surprise me if he was forgotten these day by all the people looking at P5 players. And then Randy Moss is there as well for another I-AA player.

Take out pro stats creeping into the thought process...does Randy Moss stats even compare to our GOATs stats?

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
Anybody know when the votes are tallied?
I was at App from 2003 to 2007. I was in school for all three national championships. Never missed a home game or road game during that time, including the Michigan game. We somehow got front row seats right behind the App bench.
Armanti had so many highlights, it would be fun to reminisce about our favorites, but that might make this the longest, thread in the history of Yosef’s Cabin.
One of my favorite sayings back then was “Superman wears Armanti Edwards pajamas.”

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
Just bought one of the replica jerseys.
Having been at App during his time, it was truly a honor and privilege to watch him play. I hope he can get in in his first year.
The playoff game against Richmond is still, to me, the single greatest game played by one person. He couldn’t be stopped. I also remember going to a game at the Citadel when he was blocking for K-Rich and just leveled a defensive lineman. He may have been 190 lbs soaking wet, but he played like he was the size of Cam Newton.

I have a mini helmet autographed by him from his days with the Panthers. That block "A" and gold autograph is a treasure.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 3:42 pmJust bought one of the replica jerseys.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
According to his wife, we have an offer to retire it but they turned it down because it was a half ass offer. My guess is they offered a ring of honor type thing instead of a retired number -- likely due to Marcus Cox also wearing it.
In my opinion, it should have been retired before Marcus had a chance to wear it. Now, retire it for both of them.

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
I'll be pleasantly surprised if he goes in this round with the name recognition of his competition.
In reference to number retiring I have always hated it. I'm fine if they want to have retired jerseys with the players names and numbers on them, but don't quit using those numbers as that just gets silly after a while. We've had 120 ish years now of pro/college sports in our country. In another 69 years there won't be any double digits numbers left to wear. Here comes the star qb now, number 156 johnny Johns for Apostate.

I think that's what the offer to AE was and he turned it down... I know DG and Clark feel the same. Both sides are working towards an agreement.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 1:55 pmI am on board with that!BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 12:17 pmI am into retiring jerseys and not numbers.

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
Either you have retired numbers or you don't --- App has retired numbers and if Armanti's #14 is not retired then they should "un-retire" all previous "retired numbers" - because if it's not good enough for Armanti, then tell me who did more for APP Football?

Re: Edwards on 2024 CFB HOF ballot
Having looked at the ballot I see that members can only vote for 4 choices in the "Divisional" level (they can vote for 12 in the Bowl Subdivision level). In the "Division" group there are 101 candidates but the two that jump off the page (at least to me) are Armanti Edwards and Randy Moss. Running back, Eric Breitenstein (Watauga High & Wofford grad) is also in the running as well as Kirk Roach who was an outstanding placekicker for Western Carolina. Timmy Newsome who was a great running back from Winston-Salem State in the late 1970's is also on the ballot. Lots of All-Americans at all levels all the way down to NAIA to choose from. Armanti and Moss seem to have slightly better credentials than anyone else.
The ballot can be found at https://footballfoundation.org/document ... gh_Res.pdf
If you are interested it looks like anyone can join the National Football Foundation for as low as $50.00 and get to vote.
