JMU v Marshall Game

Unread post by Parks&RecAPP » Fri Oct 20, 2023 7:30 am

With matchups against both of these teams coming in the next month, what did we see from this game that we liked?

Marshall has 2 conference losses. JMU is not eligible for conference championship.

Marshall can be run on. JMU QB can throw some pickable balls under pressure.

Marshall has lost 3 in a row, so they are beatable in Boone, wouldn't count on us beating JMU in Streamersburg

Both defenses look big up front and disciplined in the back end. Kinda the opposite of App right now.

Can run on both.
JMU lives by the long pass, keep in front of them.
JMU is second half team (like we learned last year).

JMU has a big, athletic DL and a mobile QB that is a dual threat.

I did watch the game - I still do not see anything from either of them that put them well ahead of App - they both have +/- just like we do. If we play to potential and for the entire game - we have as good chance with them as anyone else. We are on equal playing field - we just need to play a complete game.

They are #1 country against the run...no one has really run on them to date. They held Vidal of Troy over 100 yards short of his conference leading average per game. Webb of USA was 50 under his average.

As bad as this season feels, we are 3 plays away from being 6-0. WVu coach Neal Brown said more games are lost than won. We lost at WY (they did not win), we lost to CCU, ULM lost to us (we did not win), and you could say we lost the UNC game too. Of course, at the end of the season, records are all that matter. After last's nights result #TeamClark has a 75% chance to make a Bowl and still a slim chance (6%) to win the SBC.

I am not saying we will light anyone up with the run - however, we will not give up on the run. We will continue to run..... if nothing else, we will make them work on every play.

This. Their run stopping production is so absurd on paper that it’s hardly believable. Then you watch the tape and it makes sense.

I watch their pass rush and my mind gets flashbacks of what that stellar Denver Broncos’ unit did to Cam and the entire AFC in that 2015 playoff run. Nightmare fuel. I figured Southern would be their first tough test with their offensive schemes, and they certainly were not.

YES!!! APPsolutely correct! I'd say we are 3 plays away from being 5-1 though b/c UNC is a bit of a different story but I'm not disagreeing with you.

The haters will say "with the same logic we could be 0-6" but when you really look at how the games went we are 3 mistakes/plays away from being 5-1. This team reminds me so much of the 2014 & 2017 teams...lots of young talent that needed to learn how to win.

Look, that line of thought is ridiculous. Especially when we are literally a single miracle play at ULM from 2-4. If this team is close to being really good, then they are closer to being terrible. Our 3 victories come against teams with a grand total of…1 FBS win.

I'll say the same thing I said after the GS/JMU game. Marshall looks beatable.

Both teams have above average defenses. JMU's defense is elite for G5. We will have a tough time with them.

Go suck some lemons Gump and stew in your negativity. I have a lot more poignent words for you and the people with your views at this point that I'll refrain from using in front of these children...

If you don't see the growth and potential of this team then you don't know football, you don't care about this program and you don't understand how college football works.

I’m very scared of what Mcloud will do to us. Centino last year destroyed us in the 2nd half.
