Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I'd say our players "stuck to bidness" pretty well considering we won by 24 points.

So one week fans criticize the players for not showing any emotion, the next week we have a player do exactly that and we have fans criticizing him. No one can argue that App fans aren't fickle.CVAPP wrote:We have cheerleaders to pump up the crowd. Our players need to stick to bidness.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Turns out it was the right call. One can not make any demonstrative arm movements and then run with the ball on a punt return. Apparently, a rule change. I watched the replay on ESPN3 and the announcers at first had the same reaction that all of us had. After a commercial break they came back and explained the rule and admitted the refs were correct.YesAppCan wrote:While we're at it, wasting keystrokes... How about the "invalid fair catch signal"? I am not responsible for what fans criticize. I call like I see it. Try again.hapapp wrote:So one week fans criticize the players for not showing any emotion, the next week we have a player do exactly that and we have fans criticizing him. Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I agree. I don't think the call was absolutely without merit but it was kind of lame. But, I was extremely happy with the emotion I saw on the field last week. I'll take that 15 yards over drag assin around like it does not matter who wins or loses.24AppState wrote:I'm going to have to disagree. I found it VERY refreshing to see all the emotion from the players. Great to see the guys giving it their all and wanting the crowd to do it as well. I loved it, the ref was in the wrong, in my opinion.

Nobody is picking on us now or ever. I see these random stupid calls all the time not just against App State.bcoach wrote:Anyone who has been to the games over the last few years will have to understand we are going to get reputation calls. When enough time goes bye that we have proven we know how to act it will go away. all the players should be told by the coaches that because of our reputation we are going to get called for celebration or taunting if it even gets close. Those summersaults into the end zone and some of that other crap haunts us.

A bunch of adults on a message board trying to say it wasn't this, or it wasn't that, is something I simply can't understand.
Why don't we just disband?

That was by far one of the worst officiated games I've ever personally attended.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Techinally it was an "unsportmanlike Conduct" call and if a GSU player had done that to GSU fans you would be complaining...Appsolutely wrote:"I think Marcus deserved the taunting call."
Whom was he taunting? I thought that call was complete BS.
It is really easy to look at a game and see every call that was bad towards your own team and not look at calls they went your way.
BTW, you don't hear GSU complaining about Refs this week because that was not the cause of our loss, if anything, will all the penalties on APP as certain times, we should have gained momentum... In prior years, there have been calls that could go any way and were on big plays that determined who won or lost.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I think the difference here is that JM was still on the field of play and Cox ran 10 yards off the field of play to go to the stands to pump up the crowd. Almost as much of a delay of game as much as unsportsmanlike.HaveAnAppForThat wrote:I can see how throwing up your hands for a second or two at the crowd after a good run like that as unnecessary but if Cox got penalized for that why didn't Jerick McKinnon get penalized earlier in the game for crossing his arms in the back of the endzone and tilting his head looking up at some of our band members and students in the endzone? Some people would consider that as taunting too!!!
The whole team was fired up yesterday and I haven't seen that all year! Let's go beat Chatty next weekend (in the best Sean Connery voice) at The Rock!

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Not at all. He would be doing it to his own FAN BASE. I still have no problems with that at all. If it was towards our players or our fans, yes, throw the flag. But doing to your own fans to get them pumped up, nothing wrong with it. JMO again.GSUEaglesAcct#1 wrote:if a GSU player had done that to GSU fans you would be complaining...Appsolutely wrote:"I think Marcus deserved the taunting call."

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Those that I was sitting with also commented during the 2nd quarter about the series of questionable calls, including the Unsportsman penalty. Alhough and fortunately the blatently questionable calls seemed to be limited to the 2nd and I didn't notice many, if any, in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
You guys remember that Montana State bunch during the playoffs in '06 or '07? - the worst bunch of taunters I have witnessed personally - it was so sweet to send back across country with a LOSS - I believe their coach was fired within the next year ---

I'm still waiting for you to say who he was taunting. I didn't see him taunting. A good example of taunting is what Golden Tate did last night.CVAPP wrote:We have cheerleaders to pump up the crowd. Our players need to stick to bidness.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I understand what you are saying but that is completely different. That is done behind the box and they are not going to bother you for that. This was done on the opposite side very near the visitors in a wide open space. Not saying I would have called it but I am telling you that teams with reputations get different calls and we have a reputation. It will go away when we move next year. With all that said it probably helped us anyway.moonshine wrote:Call it reputation, call it over zealous, call it what you will...that unsportsmanslike penalty Cox received for pumping up our fans was BS! For those that think it was legit, I have one question.
Should it be a penalty when the D starts trying to pump up the fans (using the same arm motion) to make noise before the ball is snapped?
