He hasn't been offered yet. We should be all over this kid to at least get him in and check him out. What a frame to work with if there is any talent and nastiness.

Re: CALLING Firemoose!!!!!
Sent the link to the correct coaches and included a cc to Capel. My guess as to why he hasn't gotten a lot of notice is because of the level he plays at. As WVAPP will tell you WV 1A is a very SMALL class and this kid and his brother (6' 8" Jr) would be huge compared to most other players at that level. There's very little film or information about him out there. He may not have the footwork or quickness to be an OLineman at the D-1 level. I did throw in the suggestion that he might be looked at as a NT also. Just sheer size and strength could take up two blockers at least. If he can push his way forward even a little he can collapse the pocket and remove a throwing lane with his hands up.
I'm going to keep looking for some film. Hopefully the coach will at least get some more out there. I really want to see if I can tell about how he moves.

Re: CALLING Firemoose!!!!!
I know a lot of you guys from the Mountaineer Message Board days and AppFan, but I finally decided to get back in the swing of things. I saw this article earlier today and called a coaching buddy in WVa that I coached at a Nike Elite camp with. He knows the kid and his two cents worth was that he needs coaching, big time, but the tools are there. Not especially athletic, but no stiff.
I found a video for him and from what I saw, there is potential. For those that don't know me, I played at App under Sparky and have been coaching at levels ranging from PeeWee to High School until a few years ago. Still do some summer camps and individual coaching on request. Most of that coaching has been in the trenches, both DL and OL. As for the video: Like most kids, he stands straight up at the snap, bust does keep his legs "under" him. When covering edge rushers, its obviously he has had some coaching, because he keeps his outside foot behind him and his weight on the inside foot and keeps his shoulders square. Good! He gets on his man well in run blocking and was good at getting to the next level ... even got to the safety a few times (which is very good for a guy his size). However, he depends on his size too often and just engulfs his man. Won't work at the next level, but that can be coached. Not speedy by now means. Stays way too vertical. Strong on film, but obviously needs to see the weight room a lot more. All that said, the flaws can be corrected with coaching and he can build that body. Does not look soft (fat) at all.
On D, the fact he stands up hurts him a lot more on this side of the ball. If he gets his hands on you, you'll be down, but he doesn't cover a lot ground. NG, ehhh ... maybe. Will have to get low and get a lot stronger in his base. Not much 3 or 4 technique potential, but maybe as a 0 or 1 technique, A-gap nose, but only if he learns how to stay low, sink his hips, and use his hands. Right now his hands stay low until contact on D, a little higher on O.
Anyway, nice to join you guys, finally! And here's the website with the vid: http://new.berecruited.com/athletes/1757863

Re: CALLING Firemoose!!!!!
What about putting him on special teams, on the D-line? I would imagine his height would alter some field goal and PAT kicks.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

Re: CALLING Firemoose!!!!!
Thanks Rick....you saved me the time to type this up. The day the article came out I found the beRecruited link. The video link was not active. I went back after posting what I said above and it was working. I watched it last night. Thought many of the same things. Have a few questions about his abilities against bigger, faster guys at the D-1 level. As you said he does have most of the basics. And yes, for NG he would have to change a lot. Most good NG's are built like a Bulldog. When I made the NT reference it was only a semi-serious, get the wheels going suggestion. As I said I wasn't able to see the video then so I didn't know what he did on D. Luckly I included the beRecruited link in the message I sent to the staff so they have video now also.Rick0714 wrote:I know a lot of you guys from the Mountaineer Message Board days and AppFan, but I finally decided to get back in the swing of things. I've got to take a trip but glad the video is linked so everyone can see it. Gotta go.
