Disappointed with playing two FCS teams next year but is probably pretty intelligent scheduling.
No money game except Michigan is a little surprising, especially with GaSo playing three money
games, but they do need them evidently since they are enlarging the stadium just to get into the
Sun Belt. We can still make some good money with six home games. Still hoping we can expand
Kidd Brewer soon to attract some ACC teams to Boone.

"Appy State"? Okay. This will be the first and last time we play Liberty would be my guess. I was terrified we were going to end up in some conference with them.

We have actually played Liberty several times in the past.

Appalachian State vs Liberty (VA)

Record: 7 App Wins -and-2 Liberty Wins
We last played them in football in 2002.

I was at that game. campus police came over to our tailgate and told me I couldn't drink beer there. They then just walked away and didn't come back. I actually think they were doing what they were told and going through the motions. If they really cared I think they would have come back. I am not into their thing but they don't bother me. I think it is fine to play them. It's a football game not a church service.

Yeah, I don't get all the drama about playing them, as if we'll get their 'cooties'. I don't think society will view our football game vs. them as acceptance of every crazy thing Falwell said.

Would be different thought if they were in the same conference as us.

So exited that this game is happening. I mean, I know you guys don't want another FCS and see LU as a cupcake, but I'm betting it will be a great game. I can't wait to make the trip and experience the Rock for the first time in a long time. Besides, we might be FBS with you in the short term.

On the other issue, I find it interesting that so many at App hate LU for who we are, and all the ODU folks accepted us with open arms. For that matter, everyone else does. Had a wonderful time at Montana last year.

You know why knucklehead. Will spare the uninformed from all the reasons. Am actually kind of looking
forward to the game myself, even though wish we had dropped or never scheduled Campbell. Especially since
it's been 11 years since our teams have played.

I'm pleased with our schedule. We all knew 2 FCS teams, so nothing surprising there. As far as Southern Miss goes, they have a good tradition and have been good in the past but are down right now. Still, a fairly well known name. I'm happy that we have some winnable games in our first year of FBS also. Would rather play against FBS teams we have a shot against while we get our feet under us at the next level. A win versus a lower level FBS team beats a loss against a big name school to me.

We can't bowling next year, so why not play two FCS teams (so we can have an extra home game). I don't really like it either, but it won't hurt us.

I like the Southern Miss addition for the reasons others have stated - traditionally good program with a fairly recognizable name, but they are absolutely cratering right now. Best of both worlds.

On one hand, its very expensive to expand, and probably a lot of those seats, atleast in the beginning, will be empty, but, teams like ECU, Wake, are not going to come to Boone, and play in a stadium that seats only 24,000. So the question is, do we build, and hope, with no guarantee that a larger stadium will attract the teams we desire to play, or do we "stand pat" with the stadium we have, save the money that would be spent on a larger stadium, but pretty much guarantees we will probably never see teams like Wake. tough call.
Quick question for you Moehler: How exactly is a team that has a chance to clinch a share of their 6th conference title in 7 years termed "traditionally weak"? I must have a slightly different interpretation of traditionally weak...as to me that means a VMI or a Savannah State, not a team that could, with a win this weekend, say they have won at least 8 games in 5 of the last 7 seasons. Granted, the BSC is the strongest but a conference champion is a conference champion, even if shared.

Yeah we were at the game as well - didn't tailgate just went into the stadium - don't know if you heard it or not but the pregame music was strange - from that day on, we have had a new musical term in our family - "Burn the City Down - Liberty Style" :o

Hickory - it's the same thinking (not saying Moehler on this) that winning 8 of the last 9 conference championships is driving off the cliff -

I'm fine with Liberty. As a school and as an opponent on the field. Don't get all the hate.

We're going to hear about more scheduling news either on Monday or Tuesday this week. I'm pretty sure it's the MAC 2016/17 team.
