We’ve all attended those cloudy cold games when lights are needed at 3:00.

Do we play enough games where the lights would take on optimal effect? Starting at 3:30 and then 2:30 later in the season doesn’t create a lot of night time events.
I feel like the sun sets behind the West tower at like 3pm October on. Definitely by 4ish.
But, you don’t do them just for games. For recruiting visits, photo shoots…etc and other events in the NEZ.
That’s fair. Just wonder if the administration sees enough usage to justify the cost. It might be something that they will hold off on until the East Tower is done.

More than football happens at the stadium, could be early morning ROTC, or club sports in the evening.

East tower is still a thing? I hope we don’t wait that long to get a lighting upgrade. Would also help on TV too. Kinda a dark broadcast.

I get the cost/benefit perspective. As a fan when I am unable to attend a game, watching on TV does make a difference. Several years ago, EasyU on TV and App on another channel. I wood flip over to EasyU game during timeouts.
The difference in viewing was significant. EasyU lighting was significantly better when viewing on TV.

The tower is still a thing as far as I know. Haven’t asked anyone if there is a plan to install LED lights but if there is, it would make sense to do it then rather than doing it now only to dismantle when erecting the tower.

Excellent timing!!!
Hope it’s done by 2030.

There's a fully funded joke in there somewhere.

I do hope the demand remains to make this feasible.

This tower and subsequent connections will cost nine figures, in my opinion.

First step is to ask the General Assembly for the money. Ask for it all, then be grateful if you get some. Then work on sponsorships and tenants for the mixed-use space.

Obviously, donations and pre-payments for suites will be a part of it, but I wonder how much debt athletics/the university will end up having to use for this.

IMO, both the east and west stands should be rebuilt before putting another giant tower behind the current erector set.

Boise gets it right in so many ways. The fans, the noise in the stadiums, the mix of old traditions with new ones. Great sound system, great lighting package, and they are expanding their stadium with end zone suites. BUT, they are stuck with a bad stadium design in the lower level. The front row of the lower seats are at least 20 yards from the sideline. And, there is no way to fix it without tearing down the entire stadium. Also, be thankful for the aluminum seat backs, because most seats at Albertson's Stadium are only a bench. My point being, they have a great atmosphere, despite subpar stadium design and seating. (and, they have an erector set in one end zone)

Mt best guess is that it will never happen as their first priority will be premium seating.

True, IRR capital allocation.

Kicking the can on the maintenance/renovation needed.

Yeah, that was what I got from the press release too. Like Saint said, at some point the administration will have to pay the piper for putting off the parts of the stadium that should be worked on first.

But we're in an era where the bleacher sitting plebes don't matter near as much as the wine and cheese suite crowd.

Curious time to spend a fortune on expanding the stadium considering that it is very possible that attendance drops significantly in the coming years. This is a huge gamble in my opinion.

As others mentioned the money is better spent on improving the existing infrastructure.

I think the reason is the hope that larger donors by the climate controlled seats with season ticket money to more than offset any decline in attendance potentially in regular seats.
Given App has had over 20k in enrollment last several years....and on field performance improves, the investment works out
If on field performance does not improve, then, yes, is a potential risk.

I don’t think that on field performance is going to lose the engaged fan. The casual fan may lose interest but those footing the bill in terms of season ticket holders won’t bail.

Some of us 25+ year Yosef Club and season ticket people already bailed after last year. Not due to on field performance in any way, but due to the money involved to be competitive and dollars not going where I thought they should go.
