I think Coach DLo says all the right things in the presser. I will trust the process. Going to take time
You know he wanted to say he was glad our guys fought the coastal morons. Lol
If course he did want to..but like the response..win in between white lines during the 60 minutes and you do not have not to worry about stuff like that

It doesn't seem like we have anywhere near the talent we had several years ago. It feels like we are in full rebuild mode. In some ways, that's to be expected.
This is what I don't understand about many of the comments right now. This is an entirely new coaching staff with a huge number of transfer players. A transition like this takes time to gel and build. Compared to this time last year, App looks better. There are numerous areas that need improvement, but we are seeing improvements in most of those areas every week. We are in rebuild mode, but the foundations look pretty solid.
I’d feel a whole lot better about the transition building and gelling if we aren’t most likely going to have a different roster next year. It’s fair to say this is basically DL’s on the job training with the hope he can apply what he’s learning this year to next year’s team. And we can respectfully agree to disagree but I’m not seeing all the foundational improvements you see.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I think Loggains has bigger fish to fry than to be worried about what songs the marching band plays.

Also, can everyone stop crying about the offense? They scored over 30 pts and turnovers weren’t an issue. That should’ve been enough to get the job done. The other side of the ball is the issue here.
The offense actually only scored 27 points. We got 3 TDs on the first 3 drives. The FG to end the half had nothing to do with the offense, we got a pick and the FG was the next play. In the second half we got a punt return, again not the offense and then 2 FGS. So the offense got 3 Tds and 2 FGs which is less than 30 points. I do agreed that we scored enough to win, but the offense was essentially shut down after halftime.

Fair. But so far dlo has seemingly recruited very well. We had some very good players on campus this weekend.

Just to play devil's advocate, how does App look better this year (besides the record)? Our defense is still bad and some of the same culprits continue to start. We seem to lack an identity; we are not what I would call a tough team, but not really a finesse team either. Our players continue to make mistakes and play calling is often suspect. Sure we aren't running the ball up the gut 3 times in a row for no gain, but now we pass 3 straight times for no gain so its essentially the same. We seem to learn and grow and play well one week only to regress and lose to teams we should beat the next. I am painting with a broad brush here, but I really don't see much of a difference on these big themes at this point. We weren't a good team and we aren't a good team but not sure I can say our foundations look solid at all. I consider the foundations of any good football team to be the trenches and depth. We have a banged up/bad Oline and a bad Dline as well, both of our trench units are not good and we don't seem to have any depth on the team at all. So yeah, how do we look better?

The good moments are better than last year and we did bring in some players that flash talent. Still very inconsistent but we are on the trajectory to be a 4-5 win team this year and we should at least get to a bowl game, which is an improvement. We will see how the next 3-4 games look. This next 4 game stretch will tell us if we improved or not.

Recruiting is better. I think the 2026 season is the one where we should really start to judge how Loggains and his staff is doing.

To my eye they look better in every phase of the game to be honest with you. Bad recruiting is rearing its head.

To my eye we look significantly better.
  • Our play calling isn’t as predictable
  • We actually run a misdirection play or two
  • We’re winning most third-and-short and fourth-and-short situations
  • I’ll take Dubinion over any running back we’ve had since Cam Peoples
  • Until the Ramseys and Poindexter went out, our offensive line was much better
  • Our kicking game is better
  • Until Collins and McBurrows went out, our defense was better
  • I have more confidence in our defensive coaches
  • We’re light years ahead in recruiting

Woods went 4-7 in his first year (1984) and 8-3 in year two. Given the mess Loggains inherited, I'd be quite satisfied of we go 6-6 this year and 9-3 next year.

No knock on our current kicker, but Michael Hughes was a hell of a kicker. He got hurt in the flood and was unable to finish the season, but Hughes was definitely a more reliable kicker.

Hughes rookie stats : 9-12 fg. 50-50 XP.
De Freitas rookie stats (this year): 11-14 fg. 22-22 XP.

So far De Freitas is on track to be as good as Hughes. The biggest thing in those stats.....Hughes only went 1-3 in field goals longer than 40. De Freitas is 4-7.

As some of you know, I have complained about personal fouls being stupid and uncalled for. In fact, most of the time my reaction is “bench the idiot”. This is a totally different matter though. The game is over. Do not plant your rag in my logo. I am 100% behind the destruction of that rag. I may very well say the same thing coach said in a presser. In the locker room my message is as follows. You damn well better win the game next time BUT!! On the outside chance you don’t win that game I better not see that rag stuck in our logo. I better not.

I would add that Cash McVay has given us better results in kickoffs (25 of 34 have gone for touchbacks) and Jaden Barnes is our best punt return threat in years.

To my eye we look significantly better.
  • Our play calling isn’t as predictable
  • We actually run a misdirection play or two
  • We’re winning most third-and-short and fourth-and-short situations
  • I’ll take Dubinion over any running back we’ve had since Cam Peoples
  • Until the Ramseys and Poindexter went out, our offensive line was much better
  • Our kicking game is better
  • Until Collins and McBurrows went out, our defense was better
  • I have more confidence in our defensive coaches
  • We’re light years ahead in recruiting
No knock on our current kicker, but Michael Hughes was a hell of a kicker. He got hurt in the flood and was unable to finish the season, but Hughes was definitely a more reliable kicker.
Hughes rookie stats : 9-12 fg. 50-50 XP.
De Freitas rookie stats (this year): 11-14 fg. 22-22 XP.

So far De Freitas is on track to be as good as Hughes. The biggest thing in those stats.....Hughes only went 1-3 in field goals longer than 40. De Freitas is 4-7.
So what you’re saying is that we are on track to kick more FGs and score fewer touchdowns this year than 2021.

I would add that Cash McVay has given us better results in kickoffs (25 of 34 have gone for touchbacks) and Jaden Barnes is our best punt return threat in years.
Most of those that didn’t reach the endzone were by design. He is doing a great job.

Various aspects to the "kicking game".
I think both responses (prior year or current year) can be correct depending upon which aspect of kicking game one refers to. Hughes seemed automatic last year.
KOs have been great this year.. Another positive on punt returns is we do not automatically fair catch .. which it seemed that is a ll we did last year.
Punting seems below average this year. Not changing the field as much as we could.
For Barnes, I would prefer he lined up a little deeper. It seems that he is going backwards on too many pints before returns. Cannot be nullified on all punts. However, it seems he is going backwards before returns more often than not.
