He competed with Swann for the position.

He slid, after he took a hit on a previous scramble. We that his choice or was he coached to do that?

I’d love to see him out there, but in today’s portal world, I don’t know that not playing speaks to his character or the advice he is getting from his “camp”
Another thing that factors in to this is that the players are responsible for getting to Birmingham. If he is planning to leave, and I don’t know that to be true, why incur the expense to fly from Iowa to Birmingham on your dime.
This is wild to me… Makes zero sense to me.
It is what it is. I’m not saying that I disagree with you, but it shows how tight the budget is stretched. Add in that we likely aren’t going to sell all of our allotment of tickets, which the school has to absorb that loss.
Why the hell did we say yes to the bowl if we can’t afford to send the team there? From what I heard the conference was pushing for us to accept, so they better help us out.
Follow the money, my man. Who truly benefits from the team playing this game?

We were getting some pressure from both SBC and ESPN. Part of the cost is that the participating school is on the hook for the ticket allotment. Whatever you don’t sell you have to eat the cost. I don’t know that many schools make money on bowls.

Schools that swim in our end of the pool don’t make money on bowl games. That’s been true for the last 30 years or so. The trick is not to lose money. I’m told we won’t lose money in Birmingham.

The Sun Belt pools all its bowl money evenly. With CFP Playoff money as well, that helps.

Plus I gotta think the Sun Belt is helping App State along for taking one for the team.

I was under the impression that there is no chartered flight to Birmingham.
I really want to know how much money we will net as a program by playing in this game after all the expenses.
I guess you have to look at the bigger picture: whatever bowl your program's in plus other post-season income from conference peers competing in bowls, then deduct bowl-related expenses? But who knows if we'd ever get a straight answer?
I doubt we would get the answer. I would be curious to know what we net in profit just by playing in the game. Then I am curious to know if we lose money would we net more money by not playing in one of these low level bowls due to revenue share rather than taking on the expenses?

Doesn't the SBC pool money from bowls? That along with JMU making the CFP will likely help cover the cost.
