DB Tyrell Brown

Unread post by firemoose » Fri Dec 13, 2013 2:20 pm

Looks like we have another scholarship available. Freshman DB Tyrell Brown is tweeting he's left the team to play JUCO football in Mississippi.

I love all my app state brudas!! I'm no longer a mountaineer I wish all y'all boys the best of luck #oneseum

We took the redshirt off him for the Charleston Southern game and he was listed on the precipitation report for each game after that, mainly for special teams. I'm doing some checking but I think the info pretty much says it all. We need another DB now.

He sure took charge of his business; he had a plan and got the word out before the university could remove him from the FB roster.

For a true freshman to leave a D-I FBS program after one semester to transfer to a JuCo; it sounds as if he had academic issues serious enough to make him ineligible for spring football. If that's the case, I hope he gets the academic shot in the arm he needs at that JuCo and eventually gets his degree from a reputable four-year institution.

Barnes was Gray's backup going into fall camp but he had the family situation. He's still enrolled and still on the roster so I'm thinking we'll know in spring if he's coming back or not. As far as Garnett, from all I've heard he was doing well. They were just trying to keep the shirt on as many as possible for this next season. Brown was the only freshman we pulled the shirt off of. Depending on how the rest of the class goes this year I think we'll be ok with who we have now for the two deep, especially if Barnes is able to come back, but we are going to have to pick up a couple more DB's for depth and to shirt for 2015 and beyond. I'm guessing that's why we've seen several DB offers going out recently, especially FS/SS's. They might have seen part of this coming.

Thinking the same think 66'. It's about the only thing to make sense because, if it was playing time (and with Gray and Barnes unknowns then playing time would be there) then why not go to any FCS program because he wouldn't have to sit a year since we are FBS. To go JUCO makes me believe that's the case. And I too wish him nothing but the best and hope he can finish out and get the degree.

if it is academics, would it be possible for Brown to go JuCo and then come back to App if he wanted to and we wanted him?

Don't see why not. If he did have the grades and met all the requirements for re-admission I would think it would only be if the coaches wanted him back or not as far as football goes. But if he plays two years at a JUCO then he's only going to have one year left.

In addition, if he leaves ASU on academic probation and enrolls at a JuCo or CC, he'll have to stay long enough to graduate with at least a 2.00 GPA and an associate degree in order to become eligible to play in D-I. From fall semester, 2013 he had five years to play four. Right this minute, he has four years to play three. He's behind the eight ball.
