Agreed... love the idea of a chant at the kickoff, but we can seriously do better than that.Appftw wrote:The "you suck a-hole" chant needs to die. Absolutely classless.

When did that start? I don't remember it much beyond the last 3 years or so and how did it even get started anyway?

Re: "state side"
Like I said in an earlier thread. We need to resurrect the CLASS program. Laser pointers, throwing stuff on the field, BS chants and the you suck asshole chant just make us look bad. It is embarrassing.
Re: "state side"
How much does ESPN pay us to play on Thursday night?
I doubt we can figure out precisely what the school would get for an individual game. But, I haven't been able to find clear numbers like I can with ESPN's deals with pro leagues and P5 conferences.
We played Georgia Southern in front of 24k. On a Saturday, that could've been 30,000.
The Arkansas State crowd was generally announced at 18k. It'd be at least 26,000 on a Saturday.
12,000 tickets that could've been sold for 2 Saturday games. With $30-$40 tickets, that's somewhere between $300,000 and $500,000 in lost revenue.
Those numbers could be skewed by unfilled season ticket seats and all sorts of other things I'll never fully understand about how teams come up with attendance figures.
I'm not resigned to "we've got to do what the Sun Belt/ESPN tells us."
At least not forever.
ESPN overpaid for rights to several pro leagues and P5 conferences.
Read this.
In the future, I hope we strongly consider alternatives to ESPN. I think there's a way to get TV exposure without this weekday nonsense that ESPN has forced on so many teams and conferences.

Re: "state side"
Posted this on another thread, but it is more fitting here... it would be nice to have the TV cameras face the home side. I'm sure there are good reasons why they face the visitor side (like being positioned higher), but it does not look good on TV to have constant shots of empty aluminum. I totally get that it is difficult to fill the stands on a weeknight. But when we have the national spotlight on us, I think we could do a better job at showcasing our stadium and our crowd if the home side was shown more.

Re: "state side"
On a sidenote, I think we need to install some premium seating on the lower levels to replace the aluminum when a renovation is done. you see this it a lot bigger schools (I.e. Alabama has red seats) and it does not look terrible on TV when there are gaps between people. Aluminum just sticks out. Perhaps some black or yellow seats along the lower portions of the stadium.

Time to paint App State on the aluminum upper deck seats....also I'd paint sections of the aluminum somehow alternating black and gold by section.

Re: "state side"
Y'all are too sensitive.
Is the "you suck, a-hole" chant dumb and classless? yes. do i say it when i'm at a game? no.
but, it's what happens when you fill a bunch of kids with alcohol and pack them into a stadium for a football game.
it can't be stopped unless you completely anesthetize the student section.
also, let me introduce you to LSU's trademark student chant... "Suck that Tiger d--k, b---h!"

Re: "state side"
The Sun Belt should ENSURE no school has Thanksgiving games two years in a row. It's completely unfair. It should alternate every year. I'm still furious about that.roachgone wrote:If you think last night was bad wait till Thanksgiving weekend with no students. We'll be lucky to have 12,000

Classless on the part of both student sections.skjellyfetti wrote:Y'all are too sensitive.

Yes, this was heard on national TV and very much an embarrassment to ASU. The athletic department and the school leadership need
to figure out a way to stop this!

Re: RE: Re: "state side"
Agree, it could be worse. We had a debate with my kid a student who is probably right there in it. Is it - you suck, a-hole or you suck a-hole. Big big difference there....skjellyfetti wrote:Y'all are too sensitive.
