Huge scheduling news coming

Hopefully we'll still have butts to put in those seats....Saint3333 wrote:I said that the 12th time this discussion come up before the season.
Seats will be added when funds are available. Right now they aren't.
At this point it looks like we need to move the band back to the West Stands, dismantle the aluminum jungle in the endzone and try to fill up the permanent seats we have first...

Thanks. I guess "soon" was relative.AppState wrote:I read somewhere it will be announced around Thanksgiving.

Why? Because we had half a season of sub-28k attendance?vegattk wrote:

I understand not being in any particular rush to expand seating this season, but you're bordering on absurdity when you talk about moving backward in the expansion process. I guess it stands to reason that you would hope for such a thing...being a person who has long lobbied against our institutional advancement.
Any dime we spend on that stadium needs to go to track removal first and foremost. Everything else is secondary. It should have happened in 2008.

Well not sure if you saw the article from last week that was linked earlier in the thread, but that said "probably within the next two or three weeks" according to the SID.ASUMountaineer wrote:Anything...anyone...ASUMountaineer wrote:So, back on topic. What are you proposing for removal? Are you talking lowering the field to add seats?Gonzo wrote:Why? Because we had half a season of sub-28k attendance?vegattk wrote:

Well if money was no object, then yeah I'd love to see the field lowered, but that is not in the cards in the foreseeable future. Just building a separate track facility and replacing the orange with green turf is all I think needs to be done ASAP. A nice row of hedges along both sidelines up against the bottom stands would fill the space nicely. You'd never know we once had a multi-purpose facility.bcoach wrote:What are you proposing for removal? Are you talking lowering the field to add seats?Gonzo wrote:Why? would a few rows of low level temp bleachers work on the west side. students seem to stand most of the time and would probably enjoy being close to the players.

They likely wouldn't be able to see over the players on the sidelines.

If you are not increasing seating why spend any money to remove the track?

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
check out how much it is going to cost Duke to remove their track, lower their field, add seating and close in the horseshoe --- I think it is something like 100MGonzo wrote:Because it looks like ****, especially on TV.bcoach wrote:If you are not increasing seating why spend any money to remove the track?
Other stadiums have had/still have tracks - it didn't deter them from hosting big games --- what it looks like on TV should be the last reason to do it unless someone writes a personal check for the entire amount

Well, in three years Gonzo will be an attorney. Maybe he'll be able to write a personal check.WVAPPeer wrote:check out how much it is going to cost Duke to remove their track, lower their field, add seating and close in the horseshoe --- I think it is something like 100MGonzo wrote:Because it looks like ****, especially on TV.bcoach wrote:If you are not increasing seating why spend any money to remove the track?

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
I agree. Too, many coaches prefer a buffer zone between the fans/stands and the players on the field. I know that I did when I was in the athletic program years ago. Montana, a few years back had problems with fans throwing liquor bottles at players, coaches, and officials. The buffer zone helps in preventing that.WVAPPeer wrote:check out how much it is going to cost Duke to remove their track, lower their field, add seating and close in the horseshoe --- I think it is something like 100MGonzo wrote:Because it looks like ****, especially on TV.bcoach wrote:If you are not increasing seating why spend any money to remove the track?

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
agreed - I really don't have a problem with the distance on the sidelines from the field to the stands - they solved the problem in the Owens End Zone with the bleachers (which I think makes a huge difference than before, just seeing Owens) - the "problem" is the distance in the ScoreBoard End Zone ---JCline0429 wrote:I agree. Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Again, I think digging down and adding seating is secondary to merely removing the track. I'm sure the majority of that Duke figure comes from the costs of lowering the field, not taking out the track. There really aren't very many FBS stadiums with tracks.WVAPPeer wrote:check out how much it is going to cost Duke to remove their track, lower their field, add seating and close in the horseshoe --- I think it is something like 100MGonzo wrote:Because it looks like ****, especially on TV.bcoach wrote:If you are not increasing seating why spend any money to remove the track?

What it looks like on TV is one of the many reasons it's an eye-soar. It is the number one ascetically detrimental feature of Kidd Brewer Stadium. It is the one and only thing keeping The Rock from having a "big time" look.
I wish I was Warren Buffet and could just cut a check for the costs, but I can't. It's not that simple anyway. Our athletic department has X amount of $ in a budget and I feel that a portion of it should be devoted to removing the track ASAP. Many people, as well as the administration itself, share this view.
