Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Instead of digging own we could just extend seats down from the upper deck on the east side, and just cover up the current lower section that is crumbling away. Keeping the angle of the deck all the way down should put the first row of seats in the middle of where the track. Build matching seats in each end zone and connect them to the east side. That would give us around 35-38k seats that are right on top of the field. Plus it wouldn't cost a ton of money.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Pretty much what I was thinking in terms of seating expansion. Move the field closer to the west stands and extend the east side lower section towards the field. Puts the stands closer to the action while still maintaining a decent buffer zone.
Now back to our regularly scheduled thread. Hoping we can can get an exciting OOC home game to open up the inaugural FBS season.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
There is a way to add seats without lowering field. Move field to the west. Destroy the lower east stands. Use the height gap between the concourse and upper deck to star the new lower stands at a higher level. Problems would be the expense and also the new lower stands would probably loose seats due to current building codes.

I'd like to think that those in charge figured something like this was going to happen... Hence the "temporary" seating in the endzone.Gonzo wrote:Why? Because we had half a season of sub-28k attendance?vegattk wrote:
Hopefully we'll still have butts to put in those seats....
At this point it looks like we need to move the band back to the West Stands, dismantle the aluminum jungle in the endzone and try to fill up the permanent seats we have first...
I understand not being in any particular rush to expand seating this season, but you're bordering on absurdity when you talk about moving backward in the expansion process. I guess it stands to reason that you would hope for such a thing...being a person who has long lobbied against our institutional advancement.
Any dime we spend on that stadium needs to go to track removal first and foremost. Everything else is secondary. It should have happened in 2008.
I would MUCH rather have "filled-out" permanent stands than the reflecting blindness off empty aluminum seats.
If you're right and we end up needing "more" seats... Then by all means bring back the temporary bleachers... But I'd put a HECK NO on adding more seats until there's an actual demand for them.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
We've been at ~150% capacity for years excluding the rare exceptions of playoffs and UTC this year. We're about to start bringing in FBS competition and hype. People have to stand on the concourse to watch the game, sit on a muddy grass hill, or stand nut-to-butt in the student section at KBS and you want to downsize. Holding off on expansion is one thing, but, as usual, you're suggestions are absurd.vegattk wrote:I'd put a HECK NO on adding more seats until there's an actual demand for them.
I know you would LOVE to see our attendance permanently drop so you could say "I told you so," but it ain't happening.

It's just wishful thinking. Vega openly hopes for Appalachian to fail at every turn just so he can come on this website and rub it in everyone's face.Dmanuhone wrote:one sub attendance game and you in a panic mode.

Gonzo, you and I are about as far apart as possible on some of the social issues but I'm right there with you on this stadium stuff. If we had done this tging right in 08 we wouldn't be having this discussion. The track doesn't have to be dug out just covered up like Troy - which is the modelv we should have followed. Their original stadium was identical to old Conrad Stadium.Gonzo wrote:Well if money was no object, then yeah I'd love to see the field lowered, but that is not in the cards in the foreseeable future. Just building a separate track facility and replacing the orange with green turf is all I think needs to be done ASAP. A nice row of hedges along both sidelines up against the bottom stands would fill the space nicely. You'd never know we once had a multi-purpose facility.bcoach wrote:What are you proposing for removal? Are you talking lowering the field to add seats?Gonzo wrote:Why? #2. It's common sense to hold back on an expansion when things are uncertain. We're going into a transition that could very well go badly. Why not make sure we fill the seats before adding more?
With the possibility of less wins and higher ticket prices, (Heard from a couple folks at the UGA game that they are going to $50 a game next year? Has anyone else heard that?) I think it would be wise to take a strategic retreat before creating a situation where Kidd Brewer turns into a White Elephant.

Thanks for the grammar caveat. I originally wrote the sentence as "what you're suggesting is absurd" and I forgot to change the your.vegattk wrote:#1... I agree that things are uncertain. That's precisely why I think we should do nothing but remove the track at this point. If you're thinking we should remove the endzone seating because you expect a drop in attendance, then you're the one being presumptuous.
A strategic retreat would validate naysayers like you. That, and only that, is why you want it to happen.

Some of you guys spend way too much time fretting over what was/wasn't done 5,6,7 years ago - it serves no purpose to keep talking about missed recruiting opportunities, bad coaches, etc. - our team is what it is today and what it will be Saturday and what it will be next season - what transpired 6 years ago has no relevance - KBS is what it is, not what it should have been - it just seems more practical to discuss where we go from here ---

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
I don't know, the track just does not bother me. We have so many needs that I guess I would just put it at the bottom of my list. If we had as much money as Duke I would say lower the field and add the seats. If we are going to add seats and increase attendance then I would think the money would be better spent toward a parking deck. Then there is my famous cry of ( everybody moan ) pay off what we have first

As the old saying goes - those who fail to recognize history are doomed to repeat it. The continuing saga of spending dollars for mis-matched, patch work additions has been going on since 1979. No two sides of that facility looks the same. The opportunity make 3 at least sides somewhat symmetrical exists and it would be sad to see it wasted.WVAPPeer wrote:Some of you guys spend way too much time fretting over what was/wasn't done 5,6,7 years ago - it serves no purpose to keep talking about missed recruiting opportunities, bad coaches, etc. - our team is what it is today and what it will be Saturday and what it will be next season - what transpired 6 years ago has no relevance - KBS is what it is, not what it should have been - it just seems more practical to discuss where we go from here ---

What's the ball park figure to pay off the current construction debt? Anyone?bcoach wrote:I don't know, the track just does not bother me. As for ticket prices rising, I think most of us saw that coming. However, if the rumored $50 a ticket price tag is true, I think that'll do more harm to the attendance than losing. IMO the increases need to be incremental unless it's a big name draw to KBS.

Never said anything about "not recognizing" history - I said "fretting" about it --- I can't think of anything that hasn't been "recognized" on this board ---Kgfish wrote:As the old saying goes - those who fail to recognize history are doomed to repeat it.
