I don’t think it mattered who called the plays against UNT. That defense was awful and Cam Peoples lit it up.

I was thinking the same. I didn't think the playcalling looked different. It was just that we could hand the ball off and get 60 yards about every other carry it seemed like.

Has anyone mentioned any updates on the status of Notre Dame RB Jahmir Smith coming to us via transfer portal? Is he finishing his degree program at ND before coming to Boone? Will he resume play/practice in fall camp and be eligible for next season play? Seems to me with the departure of Marcus he will be much needed.

He should be getting to campus in the summer. He is available for the 2021 season.

Not to mention Harrington being out with the ACL.

And more than not, those factors had nothing to do with the former OC.
That is not what the players say. Heck, that's not what Petersen said. He knows he called bad games. He simply didn't know how to call our offense -- even with the healthy players.
You are 100% correct. I know first hand from several players and their parents that the former OC wouldn't listen to the players. These aren't just backups, these are players that could be playing in the NFL next season. AppStateNews, you appear to be in the know too. :-)

That train has left the station and is history. This story line sounds like an old girl friend that continues to remind you over and over and over that you forgot your one month anniversary.

Thankfully, we have a new guy running the show that most of us have a great deal of confidence can deliver.

We will see how quickly some on here turn on him if we go 9-3 again.

There's obviously more to evaluating an offense than W/L record, but in general: Yes, if the offense underperforms, fans probably aren't going to be thrilled with the offensive coordinator. And I say that as someone who is very enthusiastic about Ponce.

I don't think the OC deserved ALL the blame. But I think people also get tired of hearing that it's no one's fault, everyone's doing the absolute best they can, can't expect to have a competent passing game when 2.5 receivers are hurt...

Ok, I think we’ve rehashed the whole 2020 OC thing enough. Can we keep this thread solely devoted to spring practice?

I’m suggesting a Groundhog Day thread for all repeat topics to be posted therein.

As far as spring practice I would welcome comments on what I saw in the video. I’m not particularly excited to see video of interceptions of our QB.

Interceptions happen -- especially in the spring when the offense is usually behind the defense and when bringing in a new QB running with the 1s.

In the spring, a lot of times coaches will intentionally put players (especially QBs) in a position to fail (i.e. throw an interception) so they can see it in film review, learn from it, and hopefully not make the same mistake.

It’s hard to discern from the video why the INT’s occurred. Some really nice highlight reel throw and catch moments yesterday.

We need the TE to block better. That was a huge problem last year when Crosby and Pearson went down. That weakness made the whole line look bad.

So far, I like what I am seeing and hearing about Brice.

Yeah, but if we didn't see some interceptions, we would be bitchin' about how bad our defense must be and that it's gonna be a long year on that side of the ball. We're never happy! :)
