Good pick up there! Don't get the wrong idea. It is good to get a win - ANY WIN - much less one over your most heated rival. We have to temper our enthusiasm with a dose of reality. The Eagles are a shadow of the offensive team that began the year. Defensively they are mostly the same but not very good. Next week we play the best defensive team in the conference, so you'll have to excuse me for withholding my opinion until 7:30 next Saturday.Dmanuhone wrote:Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Thanks for the kind words. Good luck to the Iggles.Eagle22 wrote:Good game Apps. Just made it back to Forsyth after a 6 hour drive down from NC.
Good luck the rest of the season, and see you guys in Statesboro next year.
I met an older GaSo fan before the game yesterday. I wished him "Good luck today" and shook his hand. Honest to goodness, based on the look on his face, I think he thought I was next going to demand his wallet. (This was in the breezeway behind the visitors' seats near the concession area.)
Regardless of what many posters on here say, I think it's great that GaSo is joining App in the Sun Belt. I was getting tired of going to visiting college football venues that have less preparation and less excitement than a high school football game on Thursday night. GaSo being the exception.
I have no idea what the future holds for either program, or for the SunBelt. However, I will say I am looking forward to at least one LONG road trip to La. - Lafayette to sample some Cajun fare.
Re: Georgia Southern
I have worked a lot in the LA/TX area and I'm very excited about App and App Nation getting to experience that part of the country. If you give it a chance, it is so much fun and such a unique experience. The food is absolutely fantastic. The people are great (think Duck Dynasty). And they already respect and will grow to appreciate App Nation. I think our fans are in for a great time and some strong rivalries.

Re: Georgia Southern
I saw emotion, teamwork and execution from the players. I saw better play calling from the coaches . I have not seen a traditional screen or a reverse that loosens things up I remain perplexed why we don't put the QB under center on 3rd and a yard or less. Lam played great. He does seem to not recognize a blitz and got lucky a couple of times. A win against a traditional rival does wonders for a teams psyche. I m looking forward to next Saturday now where I once was dreading it.

we have not gone under center since 2003 and we will probably not much ever again. get used to itRekdiver wrote: I remain perplexed why we don't put the QB under center on 3rd and a yard or less.

We actually ran a play from under center last year....I do not recall when but I remember being stunned.....I also agree with JAX...we have to have a play under center at some point in time....please!mtnjax wrote:we have not gone under center since 2003 and we will probably not much ever again. get used to itRekdiver wrote: I remain perplexed why we don't put the QB under center on 3rd and a yard or less.

Re: Georgia Southern
yes, I remember that play (Coastal game), but it was also on a 1st down i believe and it was one of the few times we did. i think we tried 2 runs later on in the season and neither went for more than a yard. it's just not a part of our offense. I remember at fan fest in 2010 (maybe?) we ran a couple of plays from under center and Deandre threw a 90+ TD pass to Quick and we all thought we'd see some of that in season and never didasutrnr81 wrote:We actually ran a play from under center last year....I do not recall when but I remember being stunned.....I also agree with JAX...we have to have a play under center at some point in time....please!mtnjax wrote:we have not gone under center since 2003 and we will probably not much ever again. get used to itRekdiver wrote: I remain perplexed why we don't put the QB under center on 3rd and a yard or less.

First of all, it was a great all-around performance on Saturday. Good to see us finally play a complete game. We executed well except for the blocked fg and some penalties. However, I caution you to temper your expectations. Georgia Southern was really banged up on offense and their pass defense was non-existent. ON THAT DAY, they were the second-worst team we've played this year behind Elon. A&T's defense was much better than Georgia Southern's. It looks better on paper because of the name Georgia Southern. I'm anxious to see if we can do it again against Chatty and Wofford. Georgia or Western won't tell us much.

Re: Georgia Southern
DP ran a few plays under center, and so has JL-J. Why we refuse to do it with Kam is a good question. We have got to have some plays where the QB goes under center. I'll never understand lining up down-and-goal from the 1 at the 6-yard line.mtnjax wrote:we have not gone under center since 2003 and we will probably not much ever again. get used to itRekdiver wrote: I remain perplexed why we don't put the QB under center on 3rd and a yard or less.

You think it could be a "youth" thing? I can see putting a Junior or Senior in a "strange" situation, but coaches might not want to put a youngin' in something they don't practice very much...ASUMountaineer wrote:DP ran a few plays under center, and so has JL-J. Re: Georgia Southern
I'm not sure it's a "youth" thing as much as it's probably an "inexperience" thing. My completely-uninformed guess is that he hasn't done much of it, and when in the red zone, they'd rather he be comfortable. At the same rate, with a losing record highly likely, what's there to lose? Or, let's work on it in practice. Or, through JL-J in there.vegattk wrote:You think it could be a "youth" thing? I agree that expectations should be tempered because of their injuries, but we needed a win. I don't care if it had come against Jolly Time Daycare.AppAttack wrote:First of all, it was a great all-around performance on Saturday. Good to see us finally play a complete game. Re: Georgia Southern
Obviously GaSo was completely beat up and we shouldn't extrapolate those numbers to Chattanooga. However, I really don't think we've played a defense that we COULDN'T have move the ball against IF we had executed (caught the ball) like we did on Saturday. Against Samford, we had several drops when the ball as in the receiver's hands. Kam had a bad day throwing and things fell apart from there. It allowed Samford to just come straight at him and we couldn't stop them. If a couple of those passes had been caught (especially early in the game) that game could have looked very different.
This win was HUGE because these young men need to BELIEVE in themselves. Confidence is the ingredient that they have lacked, and now they have a taste of success. They have a reason to believe. I will be there Saturday pulling with all my might for the team to continue this type of play for the rest of the season.

I understand the Georgia aspect, but not the WCU portion of your comment.

Re: Georgia Southern
A healthy GS wasn't going to win that game, overall, that was the best overall performance I have seen in several years, it wasn't perfect, but the way its gone this year, I'll take it.

Re: Georgia Southern
I agree that we should have won some of the earlier games this season. Most of them actually. But we avoided losing 5 in a row at home for the first time Ever in school history Saturday. Beat a ranked team. It was Georgia Southern. Third year in a row too. Hey, you know I am having a lot better week than I have in a long time. I am in a lot better mood when App wins. I will take that and pray for more improvement. Thanks guys. Beat UTC now. Go APPS!!
