SMU was likely a better team. Tulane ? Boise ? Troy? I don’t see it.
Right!? They all lost their bowl games to middling p5s . This year was not a G5 year, it’s not always like that, but this year it is.
Exactly. The top of the G5 wasn't as high as it has been. Obviously the exit of the top AAC teams had an impact, but the top of the Belt was a bit lower than usual. Part of it was the East beating up on each other, but a few teams started out like gang busters and just collapsed (GSU & Marshall to name a couple). The Belt has great programs but this wasn't our best year.

Definitely disappointing in some ways because of how the league started and we will not have a team ranked in the final polls but we had 2 teams win 11 games, 12 teams go to a bowl game, and 5 of the 12 teams won 8 or more games. The league only had 2 bad teams with a lot of solid to go teams. The Sun Belt did great in non-conference games and we beat the MAC Champions after essentially being the 3rd best team in the Sun Belt.

Over the last 10 years how many G5's have beaten P5's who finished the season in the top 10?
I think the G5 is 4-6.

But let’s be honest with ourselves. The G5 team is getting their Super Bowl and the P5 team they play doesn’t have a lot of interest in being there.
I'm talking about over the course of each season the last 10 years. Like Marshall beat ND last year but did they end up a top 10 team? I don't think so. We beat A&M but we know they sucked. G5's readily beat P5's in the regular season but usually the P5 ends up with a bad record. I'm willing to bet that those wins are minimal at best. I'd take it a step further. How many P5's finished the season ranked in the top 15 and they had a G5 loss that year?

We get a chance to back up our talk when Liberty comes to town.

FSU should have played Liberty and Oregon/UGA. Terrible scheduling.
No CFP and no NY6 for FSU, which equates to ESPN/Bowl committees giving FSU a Sunday school lesson as a reward for their lawsuits and grandstanding in the press.

Still, hats off to LU for making the Fiesta Bowl. Yes, they got smoked by the Ducks but any one of us would’ve been so excited to see App in the NY6, regardless of the opponent.

Liberty returns a good bit so they should be a good team in 2024. We should know where we stand after our first 3 games. Liberty and Clemson will give us a great gauge to find out where we should stand.

Thanks goodness we didnt play that Michigan team back in the day...that was some of the hardest hitting defense i've seen. Im not a UM fan but the players rallied around JH and that speaks volumes to me. He is a good coach.

Like to think we can beat them at The Rock.

My thoughts are Alabama was down a tick or so this year, and UM was a lot better than they have been being - a really good team this year...especially adding the DE #5 from Coastal who is a good player and glad he wasn't at Coastal after choosing to run at him 2 times in a row in a crucial situation in '22

That was Liberty's 1st game against a P5 team this year and their best win was, arguably, Old Dominion. They ran over the worst FBS conference and their OOC scheduling was the weakest I've seen.

Couldn't be happier to see them get railroaded.

I think we can but it should be a good test. It would not shock me to see us start 3-0, 2-1, or 1-2 depending on portal adds and losses.

If you didn't know any better you'd have thought that UM knew what plays Alabama was going to call. But no reputable team would try to steal signals.

I don’t think Alabama’s QB scared UM with his arm. They were loading up to stop any kind of run and have the secondary to cover for it.

They are all stealing signals. It’s precisely why teams hold up those screens on the sidelines. Michigan just got caught doing it illegally, by sending staff to scout in-person. I’d bet they’re all doing that too. It’s silly rule and needs to be removed. What was the old NASCAR adage? If you ain’t cheating’, you ain’t tryin’. I’m sure Washington and Michigan have a dozen or more staff scouring video right now, deciphering and analyzing signs and signals.

Everybody steals signals. What Michigan was accused of was scouting other teams during games and stealing them. You can bet during games, teams are trying to figure out the opposition's signals.

Seems like there would be quite a few P5 teams with resources doing this. Maybe not.
