That would maybe be worse than Stink loss in 2019....nah ..a loss to Stink is the worst kind of loss..

Re: Spring Ball
If we don't have a quarterback that is capable of tucking the ball and running...we will have a repeat of last year.
I do believe both of our quarterbacks will regularly have 70 yard rushing days this year. Which will open up everything we were missing last year.

8-4 or 9-3 would be a decent season especially after this last one.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:14 amSo what is acceptable? 8-4 9-3
I can see 7-5 with major improvement towards the end of the season.
Realistic bowl eligible or better.
My gut telling me we have 4-5 we should definitely win.
I am tempering my hopes and expectations. Hope for the love of all things App State I am proven wrong.

Re: Spring Ball
I would love to see 9 or 10 wins but my gut says the first quarter of games are gonna be somewhat rough. If there is marked improvement and going in the right direction 7-5 or 8-4 is acceptable. Lots of moving parts (is only spring). My outlook could change before the year. Still worried about OT. On paper DL got bigger stronger faster - hope it correlates to more pressure helping the DB's. Hope I'm wrong as well.Yosefus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 10:50 am8-4 or 9-3 would be a decent season especially after this last one.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:14 amSo what is acceptable? 8-4 9-3

Re: Spring Ball
A large component to success is going to be leadership. Who steps up and provides a respected voice among the team. That appeared to be lacking last year.

Re: Spring Ball
It's so hard to project what's a realistic goal for this team. You have all the new starters. You have the new era of roster turnover everywhere. You have a lot of opponents in transition - how good will the 2nd year Sun Belt teams be? GS in year 2 under Helton? Coastal under a new coach? Will UNC be similar to last year (good but beatable), or will their defense finally show up?
And then, for us, do you look at 6-6 as the baseline from which to improve? Or do you consider that an underachievement that never should have happened, and thus set the bar of expectations higher?

Re: Spring Ball
GWebb - W
UNCCH - L - Maye versus a 2nd game QB, tough hill to climb
ECU - L - 50/50 critical game as they look to replace a lot as well. Houston is arguably the better Xs and Os coach based upon resumes, so a win would go a long way!
Meltdown on here.
Wyoming - W - 50/50
ULM - W - tough travel week, a loss here would be disappointing
CCU - W - listening to players they will won't to send him out with an L
ODU - W
Southern Miss - L 50/50, they are on the upswing
Second meltdown of the season.
Marshall - L 50/50, always close
GA St - W
JMU - W - 50/50
GS - W - 50/50
Comes down to the six toss up games. 3-3 in those would be 8-4. Tough schedule, but 7-5 should be the floor.

Re: Spring Ball
Agree with this for the most part. I would flip the W/L with Wyoming and So Miss. I think Wyoming is a better team. Coupled with a long road trip versus at home.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 1:09 pmGWebb - W

Re: Spring Ball
Hope we can land some good OL before the season, clearly the coaches know it's a priority. Never good to finish spring training and immediately have to run out and try to fill voids. The hope is that the current players have developed well enough to not have that issue, but I guess not on the OL. We missed on some needs in the TP after last spring and it really hurt us, lets hope we don't have a repeat with that this year.

That's a lot of "hope". Tampering expectations this year. Going to be a heck of a ride!t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:35 pmHope we can land some good OL before the season, clearly the coaches know it's a priority. The need to hit the TP for O-Line talent was recognized well before spring practice began.t4pizza wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:35 pmHope we can land some good OL before the season, clearly the coaches know it's a priority. It's not just a matter of whether or not the current OL's are talented. App needs depth in that room, and they don't have it right now.

If you got two, you ain’t got one. That’s a lesson we don’t need to learn the hard way.

Re: Spring Ball
I always expect to win 10+ games. I’m generally ok with a 9 win season. 7-8 wins is a disappointment, but Ok if there is improvement and you can tell things going in the right direction. 6 wins is bad and should only happen once every 10 years or so. Losing record is unacceptable without extenuating circumstances.

I am with you. For me anything less than 10 Ws I will be disappointed. Not saying it can’t or won’t happen but I will be disappointed. We gotta get this ship turned around and quick.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:56 pmI always expect to win 10+ games. Remember TCU had a first year coach last year.

There were a few of those this past season. Some of them were rectified. Some are in the process of being rectified.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:56 pmI always expect to win 10+ games.
