I'd rather not get their OC. They run the option, which doesn't really fit into our offensive scheme at all.

I'm excited to get Wofford's DC though. If he can do well with those scrubs down at Waffle House, then I have high hopes that he can at least replicate that success with our athletes. Hell, he can't be any worse than Jones.

Wofford held South Carolina to 17 offensive points in Columbia. That is impressive for any team, much less one giving up as much athleticism as they were to the Gamecocks.

Contract not renewed - fired, semantics.

If reports of Ayers retiring soon are true you think the guy sticks around for that job, unless at 52 he has been told he didn't have a shot. This is a really good move by Scott. Interesting to see how Jones deals with being replaced by a peer from inside the conference. Scott is making some very impressive moves.

Not to post a dissenting opinion but I don't think this hire has to be interpreted as anything but SS going out and finding who he thinks can best stabilize our defense. That's not to say that an invite isn't around the corner (though I don't think it will be that soon), however, I don't think every move that SS makes is designed for the next level. One could say he is preparing to remain competitive in the SoCon by finding someone who can stop the TO. (BTW, I'm saying I hope that is the case. I'm just tired of reading too much into what happens with each move by SS).

Don't know much about him, but he's fielded competitive defenses with far less talent than we have had on our roster.

Hoping it isn't a situation where he's been encouraged to seek pastures new by Ayers. He's been their DC for 12 years.

What I am hoping is that this means Coach Satterfield's been given an increased budget for hiring assistants. And - for the Dale Jones haters, looks like you're getting your wish!

How close are we to being at the maximum number of full time assistants for I-AA?

What the heck does that mean? I'm not the only one on here by far who considers JM being forced out.
And what did you mean by "supporting myself" in the other thread to which you haven't replied?

Good hire for them...but as Chuck Oliver on 680 The Fan in Atlanta pointed out - "How hard do you think it is to coach TEs in Gus Malzahn's offense? He was hired to get signatures on Signing Day."

Not a slight at Tim, just saying they wanted his recruiting abilities, and needed to put him somewhere!

I've got a 4 week old in the house, NYE was spent sleeping when I could, and there is certainly no hangover.

JM wasn't fired, his contract was not renewed. That is a FACT. Anything you may think is only your OPINION.

You can use whatever terminology that makes you feel better about the situation but the vast majority of the world would consider the acitons of our school as firing the coach. When you choose "not to renew a contract" for an employee that has worked for you for 24 years and wants to continue to work for you, it is a firing.

The facts are Coach Moore asked for one more year a little over a year ago and he received it. Time to move on.

Malzahn needs players and he knows Horton has a history of landing some good ones. Bielema would have been the 4th head coach at Arkansas for Tim. He needed a change of scenery.

The bottom line is his contract was not renewed. You can spin it any way you want but as the other poster pointed out, when you want to continue in a position and your employer says no, you have been fired.

Why is anybody that acknowledges Dale Jones has not performed at an acceptable level as DC labeled a "Dale Jones hater"?

Owning the defense that yields 24ppg, 24ppg and 29ppg over three years ultimately results in you being tagged as an underachiever.

I'll add that it's especially magnified when you have an offense that is performing at an FCS Final Four level losing despite scoring 4 and 5 TDs a game consistently.

It was easy to point out the offensive flaws two seasons ago when 3 and 4 TDs in a game was a luxury, but once things get patched up on that end and the results in the win-loss column are the same, that means something is wrong defensively. There was NFL-caliber talent on that defense last season as there has been for a few years now, yet, especially this season, it was a complete liability. That boils down to scheme and adjustments, and a new perspective up in the box should make them.
