Yep this is just the stepping stone for SC to not play in Boone.

The idea that SC drove this against App's will is speculation that so far appears to be baseless.
There's this ongoing talking point that P5s are just bound to back out of ever visiting G5 stadiums even when they sign a contract, but I don't think it's supported by reality.

I am sure Gillin had his reasons for the new deal. I would love to have a big P5 come to Boone every year but that isn’t reality for the foreseeable future. We will get what we can. I am not going to beat up Gillin. I believe he is trying to best balance all facets of our situation.

I believe the proposition to Doug was either A.) We buy out the scheduled return game and we both go on our merry way, or B.) Here is a new deal for you that'll give you $4 mil. for 2 games in Columbia and then we'll be right back here in about 8/9 years and figure out if we want to do another new arrangement or simply call it a day on a potential Boone game...and DG probably won't be around to worry about that one.

Re: 2025 UofSC home game pushed back to 2033
We really don't have enough seats to support them coming to Boone, financially. Students get in free. We will schedule someone else and get 15 - 20,000 seats sold. The additional 7000 seats plus increased individual game price because it's SC may have netted us $750,000. We pick up $1.95m from going there. Picking up $1.2mil is a good days work.
Definitely hurts the heart, but sometimes gotta lead with your head. If we go through with UNC I'd wager that the winners that weekend are the secondary ticket markets. UNC fans that want seats won't be able to get them and prices will get crazy.

I agree with Mike. To get $1.95m at Kidd Brewer.... that’s about $80 per average seat. (After taking out 5k student seats.).
Williams Brice seats 80k. Must have been 60k+ in attendance on that cold night a couple years ago when we cleaned their clock. I was there. How sweet it was... maybe sweeter than if we would have beat them in Boone!!
If we ever want to go to a NY6 game, we’ve got to consistently beat these P5’s at their place.

Agreed. I like going into other schools home field and especially when we win...even Penn State and Tennessee were great games we should have won..makes it more special to me as other team has "home field" advantages.Oldlknapp wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 8:42 amI agree with Mike. The only way to make games like USC/UNC at home is to raise ticket prices for those one time games (even for season ticket holders) to make the economics work compared to play at the opponents home field...IMO

Re: 2025 UofSC home game pushed back to 2033
I try not to think about or get concerned one iota about future games, much less those that are 13 years away. Personally I’d be fine with annual home games against regional teams like Wake, ECU, Charlotte, UNC, etc. Any of them is a crazy packed stadium and pretty much a good game. While the money games are great they seem to become pains in the butt. How much will it cost to fly the team to Miami this year? I don’t know what we are getting paid but the net can’t be much.

Agree. How does it benefit South Carolina to buy this out?EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 7:40 pmThe idea that SC drove this against App's will is speculation that so far appears to be baseless.

Supposedly they will net out with a home game replacement.

Agree with the secondary market. Wake prices were high, and Miami was crazy high. I think demand will be more from App fans though...UNC fans don't even show up for their own home games once that team drops 1 game or anything basketball related starts

Re: 2025 UofSC home game pushed back to 2033
One upside to the USC in Columbia situation is that it is close enough that a lot of App fans can get tickets and make the trip. Yes it is an away game but we brought enough fans to Columbia and it sounded like a neutral site game. For now, those games on our schedule help us with SOS. Based on historical performance from USC, it becomes a regular "winnable" game against a P5 opponent from SEC that I like our odds. So any year we are in the hunt for NY6 it helps our cause. They are not a Clemson or Alabama and not a bottom dweller P5 so any win we get helps our national image.
Had we not lost to GaSo we would have gone in as the favored team. Any year we roll in ranked in top 25 we would likely be favored or better it would be two top 25's head to head and bring us a lot of attention on national scene. These are the kinds of games we need on our schedule every year.

Last season fans were allowed in the stadium, they sold out every game for a 6-6 team.
However, while I expect there will be a lot of UNC fans at KBS, I agree that App fans will be the main ones driving demand.

I wonder if UNC will follow suit and try to get out of the home games in Boone now. We could probably get a good pay day if they tried to move the 2023 game.

Re: 2025 UofSC home game pushed back to 2033
The question to ask is will App try to move back the home game with UNC for the same reasons we did so with South Carolina.
But I don't think so. For a few reasons, one of which is that the Boone game (it's actually in '22) is just a year away, so that would be much harder to reschedule around than doing so in 2025.
The other obvious issue is that making that move after moving South Carolina so far back would REALLY risk alienating fans, not to mention killing an surefire boost to the season ticket sales that we're always desperate to increase.

If 2022 schedule sticks, 3 of the out of conference scheduled teams are Texas A&M, UNC and Marshall....that is pretty darn good..

I'm really looking forward to that trip to College Station next year and to experiencing the 12th Man in person.
