Yes he's out along with, Sumler, Bryant, Holloway, Washington, Barnard and Acey on offense. Defense is missing Blackmon, Law, Harris and Smith.

I just got back from the scrimmage. First impressions are:

-D-line is dominating right now. Lots of stops in the backfield and sacks, especially against the 2nd team
-Offense looks like we are moving to the Pistol. That was all that they ran today (that I saw)
- Fergerson looked good at RB when he had space to get through the line (see 1st point)
-Magloire was surprising at RB. Had a couple of nice runs with the 1st team
-Hard to gauge 2nd team offensive play as far as QB and RB because the O-Line was getting dominated by the D-Line
-LB corp needs depth for sure which I think the incoming class will help with along with secondary help

Play of the day to me was by Chris Starks. Barnes escaped a sack and made a nice throw on the run to Starks on the sideline who caught and made a couple of people miss going across the middle before he took for a long gain. Would've been a TD but Wale Dada made a hell of a play to catch him from behind for a TD saving tackle

Speaking of Dada, he was playing DE with the 2nd team and was ridiculously disruptive and getting in the backfield a lot. I was confused when I saw him listed as a DL on GoASU, but I guess that Woody knows what he is doing with this one. Dada had like 2 sacks in a row, once he was in the backfield as soon as the ball was snapped

The D-line did look really good. I think some of their disruption came from good coverage too. we definitely looked to be playing more zone coverage. we actually look like we can cover a TE now too!!

the home side stands were pretty full and there were more milling around near the locker room area and maybe 10-20 on the other side. I would guess at least 1,000? probably more. i did see a couple of our 2013 signees there as well as a good amount of HS kids, most of whom were AK students i would assume

looking forward to hearing other observations from the day

I'd say there were a couple thousand there. I counted over a hundred on the other side alone

I'd say there were around 2,000 on hand today. I was pleasantly surprised by the defensive backfield today, and we're still missing Blackmon. Of course we are without our top two QB's so that helps. We are thin at LB right now but should get some depth come fall. Starting O-line looked pretty good considering Fisher and Lamm were both out. Maglorie looked very good at RB as did Fergerson. WR looked good as always.

This was the first time I had ever been to a practice. Several observations.

Offensive tempo. Very fast, especially at first. I do not know if you would call it Jet or Indy, but faster than last year.

Defense: I noticed Deuce all over the place when the game started. He was in on several stops. Defense was playing fast, but offense made several plays as well.

Both Ricky Fergerson and Paul Majiorie played well at running back. Quarterbacks had several nice completions. Not many long balls at first, but several at the end, and I believe two long completions.

Negatives: Music was being played so loud over the PA system that you had to shout at the person sitting next to you.

After the practice was over my son and I walked down on the field so he could get some autographs.
All the players were very nice. We did not talk to all of them, but several observations.

Ricky Fergerson: Very nice and polite. Yes Sir, No Sir, Thank you sir is how he answered my questions.

Thomas Bronson: Asked my son his name and if he played football. Signed his name and put, To My Buddy, Jacob. Which really thrilled my son.

Brandon Hunter: He is the thinnest 275 I believe I have ever seen. He has got to be pushing 300 in a good way. Maybe I am wrong, but he is massive, not fat, but big!!

I am now officially a big Logan Hallock fan!! Met him with his parents. He took the time to talk to us, sign autographs. Really made my son and I feel special. Gave my son his face book page address. His parents were also very nice. Spoke to them again walking out.

If you were not able to make it today, but can go next week, GO!

I liked the line play on both sides from the first units, the second o line made some mistakes but looked promising. I did not see any flags for offsides nor delay.

I really liked the pop pass to the sideline, kind of looked like a bubble screen.

Impressions:

One can get a heckuva sunburn on a pleasant day in April sitting on aluminum bleachers.

Next time direct the fans to sit on the side of the field where the food is

Good crowd. Wish something more could have been done to get the crowd into the scrimmage. It WAS an exhibition of sorts, and could have been made a little more lively and fan friendly. Not really complaining, enjoyed myself.

I concur with what has been said so far. Really excited about the defense, and considering everyone not out there, the offense had some good moments. Kicking and punting looked pretty good.

Heard or saw nothing remotely associated with the FBS or Sunbelt. No banner, merchandise, announcement (unless one came after I left).

Looking forward to the Yosef program at the Palmer building in Charlotte on Wednesday after next.

I'd send a picture if I could figure out how. Love the crowd size. Sat next to a HS junior rbs mom from Hough. Said App and Uncc we're showing interest. NIce mom and son. where did that Starks kid come from? Peacock is a beast an yes Magorlie and Ferguson looked good. Hal-lock was solid but did force a couple of throws. Barnes not too sharp. Not sure who punted during 2nd set of drills but punts were okay. We will mis s SM. Def line and secondary very solid. lBs we all know the challenges there. Saw WSOC tv there and a couple of recruit looking kids wearing her 49 ers stuff.

Chris Starks was red-shirted last year

The Hough kids sat behind me for some of the scrimmage. They were ripping Barnes pretty good for his indecisiveness lol. At one point, one of them was like "you're not starting next year" in reference to Barnes

Positives: (Group)

OL and DL were impressive

The size at DB is incredible!

Pistol was cool and will make people stay at home.

Individuals
Offense. Guard play was good, Tackles were solid, Magloire and Ferguson were better than I thought they could be.

Defense: Covington and Gray were very good. Coach Woody has made a big difference already. We really played disciplined and

Concerns:
We are in trouble if we have to play either QB that played today and both Jamal and Kameron were still limping....I am VERY concerned.

Depth at LB is a concern but some folk in the DB area could help out IF they had to.

Side note: It looks like Lott is NOT done for good. We will see!

Nice crowd, but I did look for the concession stand and could not figure out where it was.

Sat with Hal Shuler (ASU '81 and Richmond County), and saw Robert Broome as one of the officials.

See you guys next Sat!
Go APPS!

I think we'll be OK at QB. If Taylor Lamb is as advertised, he could work past all 3 of our backups, although I think they will do everything to RS him. Jamal just had his surgery back in January, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he may still have a limp. He wasn't even supposed to participate in spring drills, but he's been doing some passing work which is hopefully a good sign

Seeing Lott there, although in street clothes, is hopeful.

I know its early, but it seems Woody really is a good coach, expecting big improvements this year. The way its going at QB, if Lamb lives up to expectations its going to be tough to redshirt him.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree 100%. The #2 job is there for the taking. But, with no postseason and an FBS move underway, I think he gets a redshirt and battles for the starting job in our first season in the Sun Belt.

I hear what your saying about Lamb, and normally I would agree, you dont sacrifice the future to win a couple more games in the present, but the talent gap between Jamal and the backups is huge, if he goes down, for ie: 3-5 games, I dont have much confidence that the backups can play at a level needed to win those games. I hope they will be able to redshirt Lamb, but I dont know if they will be able to.

Price shines in Appalachian State practice at Ardrey Kell
Published: April 13, 2013 Updated 14 hours ago

By Bill Kiser

Appalachian State wide receiver Sean Price doesn’t want to set many goals or put forth any expectations on himself heading into the 2013 season. As for the Mountaineers, however, Price said the team has just one goal in mind.“We just want to win every game,” Price said after Appalachian State’s spring practice Saturday afternoon at Ardrey Kell High School.“We let a lot of games slip away last year – the Wofford game ... we let The Citadel slip away, we let ECU (East Carolina) slip away, and we let the last game of the season against Illinois State (in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs), we let that one slip away.“We’re just trying to get back on track and win every game possible. We’re starting to look at things as living more by the minute, not by the hour. We’re taking steps forward to get to where we want to be, which is winning every game possible.”Price, a redshirt sophomore, was a key component of the Mountaineers’ 8-4 season, which resulted in their 10th Southern Conference regular-season title under former head coach Jerry Moore and the school’s 12th overall.Despite missing two games because of injuries, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound Price was Appalachian State’s leading receiver with 81 catches for 1,196 yards and eight touchdowns.“Sean’s a big target for us,” said first-year Mountaineers head coach Scott Satterfield, who took over for Moore after spending the 2012 season as ASU’s offensive coordinator. “He’s just got to continue to improve, to get better, to stay hungry and to be more consistent.”As an example, Satterfield mentioned Price’s performance during Saturday’s 85-minute scrimmage. A wide-open Price dropped his first pass, but went on to catch five straight and 6 of 9 attempts total. He capped the day with a 22-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.“I want to work on my physicality as well,” Price said. “I just want to do the best I can every game. I want to pick up from where I left off last year.”On the sidelinesAppalachian State had a number of players on the sidelines during Saturday’s spring practice dealing from injuries, including two-year starting quarterback Jamal Londry-Jackson.“It’s tough to sit here and watch from the sidelines,” said Londry-Jackson, who has thrown for nearly 5,300 yards and 36 TDs the past two seasons. “The knee feels good, but the trainers and coaches have to keep a chain on me because I want to do more than I should.”Jackson had off-season surgery on his right knee, but Satterfield said his recovery is “on schedule.” Jackson has been throwing the ball during spring practices, and is expected to be ready for the Mountaineers’ 2013 opener at Montana on Aug. 31.Appalachian State’s “market”With Appalachian State moving up to the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2014, Satterfield said that the Charlotte area will become an even more important recruiting area for the Mountaineers. And with Charlotte’s fledgling football team – which will play its first game as a FCS program in 2013, then move to FBS in 2015 with Conference USA – becoming a competitor for recruits, keeping ASU in the spotlight is more important than ever.“It’s certainly a recruiting tool for us to come down here,” Satterfield said. “It’s some great high school football in this region, and we certainly want to be visible. This is a huge target for us in recruiting, and with us having to sign more kids because of the move to FBS, this is certainly an area we’re going to tap into.”

I checked niner nation to see any reaction to our practice. They didn't like it. Their good source estimates the crowd at 200. Honestly I'm sure they were shocked at the high number we had. Us being in FBS is their worst nite are.
