Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
Let it go. Prior to Mich game, as a 1AA prog, they prob were "viewed" as a cupcake. We all know what happened. Let it go. App fans sometimes like to go after these ppl, but it backfires. Just clap them on. Gameday is literally coming. Cheer the team. Cheer the whole Espn crew. It's awesome that they are coming

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
I have to admit that Saturday evening I was very much anti-Herbstreit due to the cupcake comment. After reading some posts here it has made me change my mind. Granted, if he disparages our team again then the gloves will come off.
As has been stated though, ESPN College Game Day is going to be in Sanford Mall on the campus of Appalachian State University this Saturday. We need to roll out the grandest black and gold carpet for the hosts and show them how we do football in the mountains. Emphasize that you come to ASU to get a world-class education and play for championships. Also to the faculty and staff who may be anti-athletics, swallow your pride and accept that CGD showcases not only Mountaineer football but your various colleges as well if you take advantage of the situation.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
I don't think it's such a big deal that he said it, nor do I think it's a big deal that we fire back at him with it as long as it's done appropriately. "Cupcake" isn't used exclusively to describe App but it was and is still used. Owning it is probably best thing we can do. Some signs of Herbie eating a cupcake or cupcakes served on set wouldn't bother me at all. Same with Adam Sandler, it was a funny line in a movie. Part of our identity and the 'chip' we carry.

Herbie will say whatever his ESPN overlords tell him to say and whatever narrative they’d like to push.
That is his legacy.
Our legacy is punching above our weight and we continue to put on pounds.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
It has been a while but I thought the Adam Sandler App State comment was derived from someone on the movie set that is an App Grad or had some ties to the football program, no real disrespect to Adam if this is so considering it is a mention and we've outgrown any cupcake reference , imo.mike87 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 3:46 pmI don't think it's such a big deal that he said it, nor do I think it's a big deal that we fire back at him with it as long as it's done appropriately. Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
Nobody should be seriously pissed off (still) about a comment that at the time 90+% of the college football world would have agreed with. Nobody, Herbie included, thinks it now. That's a credit to our players and program.
That being said, a good-natured "NOT-A-CUP-CAKE!" similar to our "APP-UH-LATCH-UN!" chant seems appropriate until he addresses it.

Let it go:
It looks like he apologized later that day.

I'd much rather see our fanbase accentuate the positives, show the world just how awesome Boone is, and make GameDay want to return, then be offended and hold a grudge from 15 years ago.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
Pre-game and between quarters the App Cheerleaders/Jumbotron operators need to start and lead an "E-S-P-N" whole stadium cheer a few times and/or an East Stands/West Stands "E-S / P-N" cheer. Such need to be crisp, loud and proud so the production crew and the telecast crew can't possibly miss them.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 4:33 pmLet it go:

Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
I disagree with all of you...Screw Herbie. If it were up to him we would never get a p5 game. He is a "has been" and is wrong OFTEN. He can handle a few cupcake jokes or maybe he can't. For the good of the G5, he needs to be reminded why we play the game on Saturday. ESPN is coming to Boone because they will sell adds, not for any other reasons. The crowds for Gameday are starting to get small at other schools. They know App is going to fill it up. They are coming to Boone for their own good.

This is one of the cringiest ideas, on par with something Texas A&M would do, I've seen this week.asu66 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 5:00 pmPre-game and between quarters the App Cheerleaders/Jumbotron operators need to start and lead an "E-S-P-N" whole stadium cheer a few times and/or an East Stands/West Stands "E-S / P-N" cheer. We already simp enough for ESPN by letting them dictate our football schedule and to a degree, our conference.
I rather all cheers be about App State than a TV network.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
I know that our game last week was one of the 3 or 4 on that prediction segment but I didn't pay attention. If we were being called cupcakes during that discussion then maybe we owe some payback but if we bring up a comment from 15 years ago we look stupid. Only a handful of App fans even remember or care. The oldest current App student was maybe 7 years old at the time. This seemed funny the other day but now not so much.

Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
Do y'all watch College Gameday? Herbstreit deserves to have cupcakes thrown AT him. Almost every chance he gets, he craps on small schools. I think it's funny. Also, don't forget that ESPN is a major partner in the College Football Playoff, which does everything it can to keep G5 schools from competing for a national championship. The majority of ESPN folks are 100% about profits and viewers, they haven't done anything to "deserve" our respect.

Yeah but why are we making it about herbstreit? It’s bigger than him.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 9:36 amDo y'all watch College Gameday? Herbstreit deserves to have cupcakes thrown AT him. Re: Kirk Herbstreit Cupcake Comment
some of you guys know or know of Mark Spear. (Former App coach and former WCU head coach) Go back and read some of his back and forth with Herbie. Herbie deserves anything we throw his way.
We would have never had a chance to play the game last Saturday if he had his way.
I, for one, hope the cupcakes are everywhere.

I can’t disagree but I for one wouldn’t let Herbstreit know he had been living rent free in my head for 15 years.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 9:36 amDo y'all watch College Gameday?
