You went to both Roses stores in the same afternoon, just to say you did.

I remember the same thing, but it was Virginia beer. 7.5 vs 3.2(military beer).

Driving to Blowing Rock for buckets of beer at Clydes or grabbing a cold bottled beer to wash down a Holly's Tavern hot dog while taking in that gorgeous view of sundown on their back deck. Heading back to Boone only after stopping a Peabody's Beer and Wine to buy a 12 pack of whatever they had stacked highest in the middle of the store.
Oh and when I was there it was the Sea Horse in Johnson City TN for liquor...the age was 19 when I went.

My intramural basketball games were in the actual Varsity Gym.
You played racquetball on a handball court.
You went to see Atlanta Rhythm Section, Little River Band and Pablo Cruze instead of Limpbiscuit??
You went to the BI instead of the Cafeteria.
You used the card catalog and used the "Eric" research system for a term paper.
You went to your department's bulletin board and found your SS# for your grades.
You didn't call classes off because of snow.
You went to football games because it was the thing to do instead of going only because of winning.
You ate at Holly Farms Chicken.
You still have pictures up close of the Windmill.
You watched baseball's hit into the tennis courts.
You had drop add in Varsity Gym and stood in lines for 45 minutes only to find out the class was closed.
You wore "Get High on a Mountain" Footsloggers shirts.
You bowled upstairs.
The Mascot was a real Mountaineer Man and he shot the gun and not the ROTC.
Your last 4 numbers of your SS was stamped in the back of your textbooks in the rental lines.
You dialed up for computer access and it was green.
You used ribbon and whiteout doing a term paper.

Re: 40 Reasons you know you're a Mountaineer
We always heard that Tennessee beer was 6.4 vs. 3.2 for North Caroline beer. You could also but Stroh's beer in Tennessee. This was almost like buying Coors, which wasn't available west of the Mississippi then. We took Stroh's to Myrtle Beach Easter weekend and we were cool drinking Stroh's. Ah. the memorie.s

More reasons you know you're a Mountaineer:
Salad Bar in the Gold Room using Meal Tickets bought from the girls.
No Upper Deck on the App side OR the State side. And there was no Rock, or Kidd Brewer--it was Conrad Stadium.
Bowling in the Plemmons Student Union.
NO four lane road to Blowing Rock---or anywhere for that matter.
There was a Danl Boone Hotel, and it was creepy.
The "Towers" Dorm opened and it was Co-Ed!!
Cremins. And Press. And Brakefield.
Football victories over ECU, Wake Forest, and South Carolina--all in the same year (saw 'em all).
Midnight Movies at the Flick.
Big parties in the Holiday Inn Banquet Hall.
