Re: Fall camp
While I agree, seeing NO negatives worries me a little. It's like an Amazon review with a perfect 5.0

Re: Fall camp
21 stops by the D for no gain or a loss of yards can be looked as both a positive and a negative.

100% agree. That can be said with every practice report from every school in the country.

Re: Fall camp
If there were 100 snaps in the scrimage, and 21 were for zero or minus yards, the defense won 1/5 of the snaps. Sounds to me both sides did well; Fall Camp progress.

Re: Fall camp
GW is ranked 22 in fcs. No pushover. With only a handful of returning starters on our side and GW having many starters returning I believe...week 1 is no pushover given all the players that need to gel together.

Re: Fall camp
I think that we win easily. Now the scoreboard may not reflect that in the outcome but we should be able to control the narrative.

Re: Fall camp
I do not disagree we win. We potentially have a RS Freshman at starting QB. We were very fortunate that Zac Thomas was as good as he was in his first game...and if it is a RS QB ...will be some newbie nerves I would think...we got many newbies on D..it takes time to gel...i believe it may be a little slow out of the gate...and then folks settle down and believe we win, however, I believe it may be closer than some may think...on scoreboard versus what happens on the field.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 9:51 amI think that we win easily. If we are not up by 28 by end of Q1....the fire Clark touches will be lit by the Clark haters

Yep. Some folks are too impatient to trust and enjoy the process.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:02 amI do not disagree we win. We potentially have a RS Freshman at starting QB. Re: Fall camp
Jeez already making excuses and condemning a fanbase before playing mighty Gardner Webb.
It’s ok to expect we beat GWebb soundly.

Re: Fall camp
Agreed.
There are those who would blame Clark if we go 11-1. There are also those who would defend Clark and accuse others of not getting behind him and the program if we were to go 1-11.
It was a bad year in 2022. Most can agree. The off-season was played near to perfection. Hopefully, 2023 can follow the progression. If not, we are taking a long, hard look in the mirror. If so, we are back to Appalachian football.

Re: Fall camp
It is OK to expect it. That was never the question. Their offense is a formidable opponent for a defense to get its feet under them. They are a good opponent for our offense to get some work against. I could see us winning 28-14 and see it as a victory that was more in hand than some folks will feel.

Re: Fall camp
I hope it is a good game - not a nail-biter of course, beating a FCS team 51-0 does not really help a team in preparation for the schedule ahead, I think it will be a competitive game. I have read some about GW and they have an solid experienced team. Yes, App should and will win and whether it is 10, 14, 21 points does not matter to me. The coaches need film against good competition to truly evaluate the team and individuals moving into the following week's game.

Re: Fall camp
That's always been my issue with scrimmages in general. I'm not as good as some of you guys at assessing technique, formation and execution. Any time I see the D doing well, I am happy for the D and concerned that the OL isn't doing as well as I'd like. At this point, the D is usually going to be ahead, so it seems we are on track. I like seeing the word "escapability" associated with Burger. Love having two QBs doing well (with a 3rd in the mix). I will remain cautiously optimistic I think Clark and staff did a great job of addressing needs but we really won't know until we see the results during the season.
