Re: Coastal discussion
I was one of those fans who used to make pregame statements along the lines of "App is going win/lose this game" or "App should beat that team by 3 TDs," That shouldn't be interpreted as a positive or negative opinion about our coaches or the team, because it isn't.
Furthermore, the gambler's fallacy (aka, the Monte Carlo fallacy or the fallacy of the maturity of chances) should be considered when facing past opponents. Wikipedia defines this as,
"...the incorrect belief that, if a particular event occurs more frequently than normal during the past, it is less likely to happen in the future (or vice versa), when it has otherwise been established that the probability of such events does not depend on what has happened in the past.
Such events, having the quality of historical independence, are referred to as statistically independent. The fallacy is commonly associated with gambling, where it may be believed, for example, that the next dice roll is more than usually likely to be six because there have recently been fewer than the expected number of sixes."
I realize it's a bit of fun to make predictions, and I don't mean to be a spoil sport. But given the wide variety of variables, I can't make predictions about what will happen the rest of the way...oddsmakers be darned.

Started at 1:30 because I had a test at 1 and soon as I got back to my apartment, neighbors were outside handing me drinks. Re: Coastal discussion
Seeing this will be McCall,s last game in Boone , get ready for a 40 to 50 attempt night. i don't think the Coastal run game will test our d line, but the secondary will have to cover and help each other. Maybe double team Pinkney at times. I see a high scoring game like ULM.

I don’t know if we’re trending down like them but we’re not trending up that’s something everyone can see.

That was a good one. I can still remember Brian Quick breakdancing on the sidelines and Ben Jorden catching what seemed like pass after pass up the seam that night.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 6:07 pmStarted at 1:30 because I had a test at 1 and soon as I got back to my apartment, neighbors were outside handing me drinks. Well App12, you have obviously met your match in the historical stat knowledge.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:38 pmIm a huge stat nerd. I don't come on a board and not have facts to back up my defense of which I take my side. #TeamClark

Re: Coastal discussion
I’m going to believe what you say is true mainly because I don’t have the means or willingness to find the information to refute your statement. My only question is, that’s 10 byes in 4-5 years, do we have 2 byes a year? Thought it was just 1.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:33 amWell App12, you have obviously met your match in the historical stat knowledge.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 11:38 pmIm a huge stat nerd. Re: Coastal discussion
There is literally no value in them. Injury update is about the main thing, but 6 or so questions with no substantial answers is useless.
Every week it's the following
Reporter: Coach, how'd you feel about the game?
Clark: Good, things to improve, things we did good
Reporter: How'd you feel about those things to improve?
Clark: Not good, we should be better
Reporter: How do you think you can get better?
Clark: Just got to play better
Ok thanks everyone!

Re: Coastal discussion
They are probably required as most FBS schools have them.
Just like the weekly Sun Belt conf call is about the same.

Re: Coastal discussion
It's the media's job to ask questions the fans/readers/listeners/viewers want. I don't think David Ware, who asks the lion's share of questions, does this well. He asks questions based on his observations. The students reporters don't have the experience to ask tough questions and the TV reporters seem only interested in asking about certain players.
If I was involved, I'd press Clark about Burger's timeline and if there will be a QB competition when he is healthy, Anderson Castle's timeline for return, what he felt didn't work on defense at ULM and offensive changes made between Wyoming and ULM.
The negative is that Clark gets easily defensive on perceived negative questions. On the Sun Belt media call, he was asked about Joey's interceptions and he immediately responds by saying he's glad Joey is on the team. Watch the post-Gardner-Webb presser. He got very defensive about the QB situation despite not being pressed that much and repeated himself 8-9 times.
