I got that email as well. Kind of disappointing. At alot of schools (FBS) people come in and start tailgating on Wednesday. The lots should at least open at 9. If you want to do something like cook a pig (what I'm doing for the first game) you have to start somewhere else and then move it. I understand they are trying to curb the amount of alcohol consumed, but don't they think people will just begin drinking somewhere else before going to their spot? IMHO the benefit of a night game is a longer time to tailgate. Cutting at the minimum two hours of that is just dumb I think.AppState2009 wrote:Just got an email from Appalachian State Athletics saying the lots open at 11am.
When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?

If the enforcement is anything like it was at the Gnarnia festival on Beech Mountain last month, then there might be a fan revolt. The ALE conducted an operation so massive that the festival is unlikely to return and then high-fived themselves that they filled the jails of two counties with low-level drug offenders and put a strain on the courts that will cause both counties to lose money (not to mention Beech Mountain tourism) in the long term.

I noticed at the bottom of that notice that there are tickets available. This may be a sign of the times with the economy finally making an impact on our football program. Who would have thought that this game would have any tickets available? When this one was announced, I thought it would sell out the first day tickets went on-sale. Obviously the weather will further slow sales... Curious what the hill will look like.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
It seems like there are lots of Montana tickets listed in the Ticket Exchange folder as well. I was hoping for a sellout, too, but don't think we'll make it. The economy is definitely taking its toll. I guess those of us who are there will need to be extra loud.

I was just told that Mountaineer Village will open at noon. This is the "family friendly" area for tailgate fun. Does anyone know if there are any rules or restrictions for setting up a site in Mountaineer Village?
Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
All the signs on campus order the parking lots to be cleared of vehicles by 10am on Saturday or the remaining vehicles will be towed.

The campus police are enforcing the "3 hour" rule on alcohol. Apparently it has been in effect for a decade. They are recording license plates and will ticket anyone in violation.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
Aren't the parking lots assigned to other people weekdays during the week of the game? It seems people would be a little ticked off to have someone tailgating in a space that was paid for by students or staff members.MtnMan09 wrote:I got that email as well. Kind of disappointing. Not sure where you heard that from, but that isn't how it works. Someone told you a lie.....AppState2009 wrote:The campus police are enforcing the "3 hour" rule on alcohol. Apparently it has been in effect for a decade. They are recording license plates and will ticket anyone in violation.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
Since this is my first year parking on campus, I have a question. I park in the Library deck and got there about 3 hours before the game. Since it is festival parking, I had to drive to the top of the deck and there were only a few spots left due to about 50 groups taking up 2-4 spots with corn hole, grills, etc. What happens when there are no spaces left and they won't move?

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
Cop came up to me about 1:30 and asked what I was drinking. I thought he thought I was underage, so I didn't think much about it and told him it was a beer.AppState89 wrote:Not sure where you heard that from, but that isn't how it works. He made me pour it out in front of him and threatened to write me a $200 ticket if I refused.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
There are only as many passes as there are spaces. If groups are using more spots than they have passes for, they are generally made to narrow their tailgating footprint to the number of spots for which they have passes. Keep in mind that there are groups that have 4 passes and only take two cars, so some of those groups may not have been using more than allowed.asualum78 wrote:Since this is my first year parking on campus, I have a question. AppState2009 is correct. A cop came by around 12:30ish and personally made me pour out a natural light. I told him I had no idea about this three hour rule (honestly didn't), and he made me out to be some sort of trickster. Said "you can't fool me", "it's been like this for over 10 yrs", etc.AppState89 wrote:Not sure where you heard that from, but that isn't how it works. The cops were riding through the young alumni lot and eyeing IG Greer and his tailgate for the next few hours.
I was drinking a can with a coozie. Anybody think that if I were drinking out of a cup, would I have been bothered?

I've heard the three hour rule before, several times, but there's no way that a cop can record your plate number and send you a ticket for it later. The law doesn't work like that. If ALE/Boone PD/ASU PD want to try that, be my guest. I'll see you in court and I bet I win.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
This cop kept referencing the ASU police Facebook page, well it said 3.5 hours drinking can commence. The Cop said 3 hours. Who is right?IGgreer wrote:AppState2009 wrote:The campus police are enforcing the "3 hour" rule on alcohol. Apparently it has been in effect for a decade. I didn't appreciate him calling me and my friends (and my girlfriend) liars for not knowing the rules we didn't know. IGgreer can tell you this put me in a subpar mood until that awesome game was underway.

Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
Wasn't really where I was going with that..figured he radioed in the plate so the next officer that came through would see you already got a warning and then write out tickets.BeauFoster wrote:I've heard the three hour rule before, several times, but there's no way that a cop can record your plate number and send you a ticket for it later. Re: When do tailgate lots open on Saturday?
That makes more sense. From the original post, it sounded like they were going to be mailing out a bunch of tickets this week. Thanks for the clarification.AppState2009 wrote:Wasn't really where I was going with that..figured he radioed in the plate so the next officer that came through would see you already got a warning and then write out tickets.BeauFoster wrote:I've heard the three hour rule before, several times, but there's no way that a cop can record your plate number and send you a ticket for it later.
