One thing I won't miss about Wofford is how they try to double-charge me for parking.
And how they run out of water before halftime. It's not the first time that's happened.

It is an impossibility for a person to "bleed black-n-gold" and pull for Western.ASU-FTW wrote:Ol' Wade will surely miss the SoCon, and everything about it it seems.
The below comment was posted on the conversation tab on ESPN's week 13 matchup between App and Western:
Link: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/conversat ... =333272026Wade H. Booth
From an unHappy Appy on Sept. 4: Go Catamounts! Come and take the jug from us. We don't need it anymore. Our "powers that be" have decided that our rivalries are meaningless, that we belong in the I-A division, that the SoCon is a petty conference, etc. I'm proud of my education and will always bleed black-n-gold. But until this decision is reversed, the "powers" have shown they don't need my support anymore.
People like Wade make me sick.

Re: One thing I'll miss about the SoCon
Same thing happened to me a couple years ago and I have never been back to that awful place. I use to go every other year, but the Wofford people are not hospitable like the Furman people have been. I am so glad we never have to go back there again. Cant wait to see App play in the Georgia Dome and away trips to Texas State, Louisiana and Mobile.T-Dog wrote:One thing I won't miss about Wofford is how they try to double-charge me for parking.

Re: One thing I'll miss about the SoCon
I created a new account just for this one comment. This might be a bit mean to post this, but I can't resist.
I went to elementary school and then high school with Wade, until his family moved, I think to the Boone area.
We all have quirks and such that just get under the skin of others. Sometimes it is even hard to explain except "it just does." That applies to me I am sure, though I try and be easy enough to get along with, I am sure some folks just don't "get me" and my thoughts/humor/outlook on life. Usually people like this have someone that will be their friend in school - not Wade that I remember.
Wade was the type that just irritated you.
I did run into him on campus once or twice. I remember him telling me he was a student manager for the football team. This would have been late 80s early 90s. I think I remember this conversation mainly because I was thinking at the time to myself, "I can't believe someone has not tackled him by "accident" just to not have to deal with him anymore." He was just that type.
He has a right to his opinion. I do question his loyalty to App when he wishes we lose to Western. But that is Wade for you. Even when not posting to the MMB he has found a way to irritate people on here. In a way that is an amazing talent. Transportational irritation is no easy task for people.

The one thing I'll miss the most are the SoCon refs, a more caring professional bunch will be hard to find.

What I've thought about is that I'd like to do one big road trip per year, making a long weekend out of it. Based on our conference and also MAC and C-USA possibilities, trips to Albuquerque, San Antonio, Miami, Boston, some of the Ohio that I heard are cool college towns, and some of the Louisiana cities are all possibilities.
I guess that I'm different in that when I travel to an away game, I go to see the game. If I want to visit a city, I go there for a vacation or sight seeing and don't mix travel to the game with enjoying the town.

Many of you may remember that I'm not much a fan of Elon to say the least, but I couldn't have asked for better hospitality than my 8 year old and I received at the Elon game earlier in the Fall.

That's because there were no Elon fans there.JCline0429 wrote: Many of you may remember that I'm not much a fan of Elon to say the least, but I couldn't have asked for better hospitality than my 8 year old and I received at the Elon game earlier in the Fall.

I was speaking of the concession stand folks, the Elon fans and drivers on the shuttle buses, Elon fans we asked directions from, the ones who showed us a good place to park, etc.

It was only because they are as happy to be getting out of the SoCon as we are.JCline0429 wrote:AtlantaMountaineer wrote:Same thing happened to me a couple years ago and I have never been back to that awful place. Maybe he used to, but I highly doubt he is anymore. And he won't be back "until this decision is reversed".proasu89 wrote:Why do I have the feeling that Wade sits in our section.

I do both. Game is on a Saturday, go and tailgate and go to the game. That still leaves me Friday, Saturday night after the game, and part of Sunday. Especially for trips this long, it wouldn't make sense for me to go straight there and straight back. IJCline0429 wrote:canes_mj wrote:I'll miss the easy road trips as well. Re: One thing I'll miss about the SoCon
I don't think so. I just think more alumni that live throughout the Southeast will get to see the Apps play than ever before. The folks that live in Boone, Tri-Cities, Winston, Hickory, Charlotte or Greensboro? Yeah, a local game at the small college within 2 hours driving distance is gone, but Alumni throughout the SE will get to see our games in person, or on the ESPN networks most every weekend, not once a year.JCline0429 wrote:I'll miss the opportunities to travel to short distance away games in the SoCon. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with the SoCon, or the schools in it... we have just plain outgrown the conference, and we will not be able to continue to grow as a university if we do not associate ourselves with other regional and national universities. I think Peacock said it best the day we announced: "We are not moving up, we are moving on."

But we are moving up. Nothing wrong with saying it. It was time to move up from D-II to D-I in the late 60's and its time to move up from FCS to FBS now.GoAppsGo92 wrote:I don't think so. You'll find most Elon fans of a "certain age" as you describe, those who have been around remember the Elon of old - good people, small school. caring president and staff and NOT what it is today - full of rich kids driving their BMW's, Mercedes, Land Rover's, etc. , an arrogance of superiority and a total lack of soulJCline0429 wrote:I was speaking of the concession stand folks, the Elon fans and drivers on the shuttle buses, Elon fans we asked directions from, the ones who showed us a good place to park, etc.

I'm just the opposite. I enjoy making away games a long weekend when possible to enjoy both the game and the city/town.JCline0429 wrote:canes_mj wrote:I'll miss the easy road trips as well. Most every weekend? You mean ASU football games will be broadcast on ESPN almost every weekend? You have got to be kidding. Are there enough SunBelt games being broadcast that ASU will get one almost every weekend?GoAppsGo92 wrote:I don't think so. I haven't checked lately but I don't believe we were ever D-II except for a few months in 1973. We were NAIA for a long time and considered "small college in NCAA for a while..Kgfish wrote:But we are moving up. Nothing wrong with saying it. I believe this year all Sun Belt football games that were not on a regular TV channel were streamed on ESPN3.
