We will have more than 30,000 for the ECU game. They could bring 30K themselves.

$$$$$ shouldn't be an issue either.

30,000 x $40 = $1,2000,000... I'm sure we will pay them $250,000-$500,000... or ... each team might just keep the gate with a home and home. Teams close by are starting to do this now.

I hope it's ECU as my dad and brother went there. Special game for our family.

That was a quote from an article, either ODU AD or coach talking. I have no idea if it is true that the area is fertile recruiting ground. Should have posted the link as well. My point to posting was that it is not enough to compare stadium size of App to ODU. Just like UNCC got invited to the party before they ever fielded a team because of where they are other programs might get big names to come to their stadiums because of where they are.

Even with MTSU or WKU imagine they would just about think our seating is just barely adequate.
I don't buy this. If that were the case, please explain NC State playing AT ODU's 20,000 stadium in 2015, which has little to no room for "overflow" crowds.

Now I did see earlier today that Louisville and Marshall push their game back from 2014 to 2016 (was a scheduled home game for MU). This opens a hole for us to play at Marshall next yr with a return date in '15. Fits nicely with our announcement today regarding ODU.

I would be thrilled with either ECU or Marshall and do not think stadium size will be of much concern to either of them.
You do realize that ODU announced some time ago that they are building a completely new football stadium right away on some land next to campus next to the water will be around 35,000 seats initially with many amenities near it like restaurants and arcades, etc. Not sure if it will be ready for the 2015 season opening but sounded like they were jumping on the construction right away.

In a home and home contract arrangement, each team generally keeps its home gate.

I like it. I am waiting for some more 'insider' info. I want to know which teams the other series are with and what fills out the 2014 schedule.

Actually, the stadium will not be next to the water but within sight of the Elizabeth River, it will seat between 28,000-30,000 with the ability to expand, and will be ready, ODU officials hope, by 2017.

Looked it up. Their newspaper/blog says 30,000, and some ODU posters today are saying they had been told 35,000 so must have been where picked that up. With ability to expand. Evidently ODU bought the land next to campus that the stadium will sit on. Many had speculated that they did not want to own the land so that they could serve alcoholic beverages. Yes it is within sight of the Elizabeth River, didn't mean to infer that it was boat parking at the stadium like Tennessee, Washington or the new Tulane Stadium but what side of the ODU campus their new stadium will sit.

Their AD already has a 2-1 series set up with Virginia Tech, and Virginia wanted to do the same thing, but Selig, their AD, told Virginia that he will never sign another 2-1, that it will have to be home and home only. Virginia Tech is evidently going to add onto their series with ODU, with additional home and homes and Virginia seems to be close to signing home and homes. NC State playing at ODU in 2015 is the first BCS team that will visit I believe. ODU's AD credits their new stadium as locking up the home and homes, seven total game with three in Norfolk with Virginia Tech.

That and the fact that it's the best recruiting area in the state and one of the best in the region. App can match the stadium, but we can't match that.

Sorry I misread your post --- my wife is from Hampton so that is why I asked - Yes, the Tidewater region is absolutely one of the most fertile recruiting areas along the east coast ---

Yes, I do. And I made sure to look it up before I posted my initial reply. Their new 30,000 seat stadium is not slated to open until 2017, at the earliest. NC State visits in 2015.

"Old Dominion ultimately plans to play major college football in a new, 30,000-seat on-campus stadium - not at Foreman Field -....Nonetheless, sources indicate ODU hopes to have the new stadium open by 2017."

You didn't mention it in your post so was not sure. Not sure if NC State did a home and home or a 2-1. Seems to imply it's a home and home. It's an easy drive for NC State and their fans. Just like it was the deciding factor in VPI doing home and homes it may affect all of their scheduling. May not be finished but future games and even initial games may be decided on what will be there soon. Virginia Tech initially was only doing three games, but now wants to expand that. NC State may have that in mind also. Plus the inevitable talk of them all doing recruiting so much in that area. Additionally playing a team outside the state, even though it's just across the border, versus scheduling us would bring less wrath from their fan base I imagine. Plus ODU has had an extra year to work on their FBS schedule than we have.

NC State and ODU is a straight home and a home. In Raleigh in 2014, in Norfolk in 2015 (the week before we visit).

http://www.fbschedules.com/2013/03/nc-s ... ll-series/

VT and ODU originally scheduled a 2 for 1 (2017 and 19 at VT, 18 at ODU)

http://www.fbschedules.com/2012/12/old- ... ll-series/

And then they scheduled a 4-game home and home yesterday (2022-15)

http://www.fbschedules.com/2013/11/virg ... ll-series/

They're looking at a home and home with Virginia in the two years of the nine they don't have VT (2020-21)

Per Football Scoop

Virginia Tech: Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times is reporting that athletic director Jim Weaver will step down from the AD position on December 31.

Guess he has been wrapping things up.

Coaching Search
Virginia Tech: According to the Daily Press, Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver will retire next month due to health reasons. Weaver is battling Parkinson's disease and needs a hip replacement.

I am surprised that VT is not more concerned with their strength of schedule. I understand State but am surprised the contenders are willing to do long term home and homes. That is where we have an advantage in state. NC does not have any contenders so will probably be easier to get games with them.

On todays radio broadcast York and Rutigliano mentioned that the Flames will be traveling to Boone next season. Digging the OOC with the Tarheels and Appy State, great regional games

Yeah I just posted a thread about the Liberty posters saying Liberty in Boone in 2014.
Pretty surprising.

Is it possible that we lost Campbell? Or, is it more likely that we lost the supposed CUSA team?

if the Liberty rumor is true, that's really disappointing, they are not only a FCS school, but, traditionally weak one at that. As far as whether App should expand or not, tough call for the administration. On one hand, its very expensive to expand, and probably a lot of those seats, atleast in the beginning, will be empty, but, teams like ECU, Wake, are not going to come to Boone, and play in a stadium that seats only 24,000. So the question is, do we build, and hope, with no guarantee that a larger stadium will attract the teams we desire to play, or do we "stand pat" with the stadium we have, save the money that would be spent on a larger stadium, but pretty much guarantees we will probably never see teams like Wake. tough call.
