Re: Huge scheduling news coming
I really don't see any benefit in removing the track unless it is part of a plan to use that space to expand seating. Removing the track, turfing the area and building a track & field facility is a LOT of money to spend for aesthetics. I favor a separate T&F facility, but we have to figure out a way to incorporate that into permanent stadium expansion. Of course, permanent end zone seating is part of that process, but the side line area is a challenge.Gonzo wrote:Well if money was no object, then yeah I'd love to see the field lowered, but that is not in the cards in the foreseeable future. Just building a separate track facility and replacing the orange with green turf is all I think needs to be done ASAP. A nice row of hedges along both sidelines up against the bottom stands would fill the space nicely. You'd never know we once had a multi-purpose facility.bcoach wrote:What are you proposing for removal? Are you talking lowering the field to add seats?Gonzo wrote:Why? Because we had half a season of sub-28k attendance?vegattk wrote:
Hopefully we'll still have butts to put in those seats....
At this point it looks like we need to move the band back to the West Stands, dismantle the aluminum jungle in the endzone and try to fill up the permanent seats we have first...
I understand not being in any particular rush to expand seating this season, but you're bordering on absurdity when you talk about moving backward in the expansion process. I guess it stands to reason that you would hope for such a thing...being a person who has long lobbied against our institutional advancement.
Any dime we spend on that stadium needs to go to track removal first and foremost. Everything else is secondary. It should have happened in 2008.

Akron is much improved this season and was 4 seconds away from winning at Michigan. I'd love to quote Harvey Keitel's character from PULP FICTION when Vincent & Julius thought he'd solved their little murder problem but it's a family msg board and I'm happily hetero. LOL!

I agree, that's why I said it was "winnable" rather than a "likely win." Of course all of that is based on how the programs look today. It's tough to project out 3-4 years. By then Akron could be winning 10 a year or could go 0-12.luvyosef wrote:Akron is much improved this season and was 4 seconds away from winning at Michigan. But based on this year, yeah they almost beat Michigan, but they also came just as close to losing to JMU and UMass. Overall a 4-7 MAC team. If they're still at that level when we play them and we don't have a pretty good shot at beating them, then we've got bigger problems than who's on the schedule.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Akron has been down for a long time in football. They built a new stadium and then brought in Bowden to turn things around. I'm betting he will make a difference and when App State plays at Akron in 2016 you could well be facing a better football team then you are looking at right now. Don't count it as a sure win but I would agree it should be thought of as a winnable game for ASU. I am thinking Akron is also looking at this as a winnable game which means it could be a good one. As I have said before, the top teams in the MAC come and go. No team can hold the top spot for long. And when the top teams fall, the bottom feeders tend to move up. Again, we have no idea where Akron will be in the pecking order by 2016.
If you can make it up there for the game you will enjoy the stadium. It's similar to Kidd Brewer with the double decks. The double decks make the place look bigger than it really is and I like that. You will see a lot of these double deck stadiums in the Sun Belt. Akron's stadium holds 27,000 in what they call traditional seating and has a grassy knoll in one end zone that can hold another 3,000. And there should be a good crowd for that one, especially if Bowden has things going by then. App State has established a national brand and is quite well known around the country. Fans in Akron won't be wondering who App State is or where it is. They already know the answers to those questions.
Instead of driving down to Boone to see my one game a season I will have to think about driving over to Akron for that game. It will all depend on what Central Michigan is doing that weekend.

I saw where Akron beat a pretty good Toledo team last Friday. Bowden has them heading in the right direction.midlandchip wrote:Akron has been down for a long time in football. That's right. The win over Toledo was big and demonstrates in my mind Akron is probably in phase two of a four phase rebuilding process. One of the guys on our board called Akron difficult to understand. I said they were not difficult to understand at all. We are simply looking at the beginning of a rebuilding process in action. I serious folks, this could be a great game in 2016.

Next year at home we have Georgia State, Idaho, South Alabama, and Louisiana-Monroe. On the road we have Georgia Southern, Arkansas St., Troy, and Louisiana-Lafayette. That will flip in 2015.

You already spend enough money on WCU season tickets. Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Whatever happened to the pro-FCS mantra of “I don’t care who the Apps are playing, I’m going to see App play”. I guess that only applies if ASU is playing one of the schools you actually do want to see. No need to worry though, I’m sure that out of Wofford, Furman, WCU, or Presbyterian, one of them will have a home game the same weekend the rest of us go support ASU as we test new waters. Have fun in Spartanburg!JCline0429 wrote:97APP wrote:The dates should be released sometime in March.appst89 wrote:We already have our Belt schedule for the next two years.appmaj wrote:Has a Timeline been released on when the Sun Belt will determine the conference schedule?

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
I hope the Cajon games are later in the year when it isn't the middle of hurricane season and hot as hell. The last LSU game was fun but would have been better without the hurricane induced early start and the fact that I couldn't get back to the New Orleans airport and had to drive back to ATL from Baton Rouge. On the plus side, us Mountaineers almost had Bourbon St to ourselves on Friday pre-game. Playing ULL will be a good measuring stick of where our program is next season.

I am glad we have all the teams lined up for next year and now I am excited to see when the dates are going to be. You think there will be any chance for a regular season home game to fall in December?
