In all honesty, I think they believe they can be the evangelical answer to BYU. They have the money and they have the notoriety that would be appealing nation-wide to people of that mindset. Honestly though I would think any G5 conference would be reluctant to have them since their leadership is such a lighting rod for controversy, but if there is any school on the east coast who could probably go at it alone and have moderate success, it's probably them.
