This is how I feel. I have my opinion on what is best for ASU, but I don't have nearly the amount of information as the administration, BOT, and the committee that recommended a move. I am glad I don't have to make the decision, and defer to those that have the necessary information and will be making the decision (if an invite is received).Watauga72 wrote:Is anyone else as ambivalent about moving to FBS as I? Top Nine FCS Postseason Games, By U.S. Household Ratings Share
1.1990, Georgia Southern vs. Nevada, I-AA Final at Statesboro, GA (CBS, 2.3 share)
2.1991, Youngstown State vs. Marshall, I-AA Final at Statesboro, GA (CBS, 2.0 share)
3.1992, Marshall vs. Youngstown State, I-AA Final at Huntington, WV (CBS, 1.9 share)
4.1993, Youngstown State vs. Marshall, I-AA Final at Huntington, WV (CBS, 1.8 share)
5.1994, Youngstown State vs. Boise State, I-AA Final at Huntington, WV (CBS, 1.7 share)
6.2009, Appalachian State at Montana, FCS Semifinal (ESPN, 1.6 share)
7.2007, Delaware at Southern Illinois, FCS Semifinal (ESPN, 1.4 share)
8.2007, Delaware vs. Appalachian State, FCS Final at Chattanooga, TN (ESPN2, 1.3 share)
9.2008, Richmond at Northern Iowa, FCS Semifinal (ESPN, 1.2 share)
Still, in terms of exposure, the fact that the highest rated FCS game we've ever played in was right on par with the 2011 Fight Hunger Bowl is pretty telling.
It's telling in that if that is the only bowl we get an invitation to, let's pass.

I feel the same way, but I'm not sure they have made or will make the right decision in spite of the evidence. The financial projections (and those were just that, projections) made me question if whether or not they were the qualifiers for much beyond mediocrity.ASUMountaineer wrote:This is how I feel. Re: TV Ratings: Our games vs Bowl games
Wrong. I have never been totally against a move to FBS and I feel we that we don't have much of a choice given the changes in FCS as well as the FBS. I'm just not anyway sold that it will be the panacea it is made out to be. I think the risk is balanced by the potential gains although a lot of the figures say that we may be among the mediocre financially. That is where we were in our first few years after joining the SoCon..and I mean compared to other SoCon members. It took a few years to get beyond the bare minimum scholarships required of SoCon members. A lot has transpired since then but the analogy is still valid in proportion to other FBS members and conferences.ASUMountaineer wrote:Wait, you're against a move to FBS? My post was more a joke than anything, no offense intended.JCline0429 wrote:ASUMountaineer wrote:Wrong. I agree with your first point. I don't think the admin has a choice but to accept any invitation from an FBS conference. With the changing landscape, trying to even keep the status quo may be difficult. I think there are some pro-FBS types that believe a move to FBS will result in a windfall of riches, but most pro-FBS folks are much more reasonable and would enjoy an FBS existence similar to ECU.
What we do know is that currently, ASU would be at the top of the Sun Belt in generated revenue as things stand now. If ASU was able to maintain that standing after a move to the Sun Belt, it could be well positioned for success, relatively speaking. Like I've said on a couple of threads, we're past the point of convincing folks as to which option is best. The university's leaders will need to make a decision and do everything it can to make it a success. If they do that, they will have the support of ASU alumni and fans--pro-FBS and pro-FCS alike.
