Traveling to an FCS is unheard of when you are FBS. This fixes that and gives us another home gate. Don't like that it may be Campbell but it is what it is. Id rather play Campbell at home than McNeese away. Just means another Saturday in Boone!Appersrule wrote: I don't see why you would switch one FCS for another.

Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
First year Belt schedules:
FAU - four home games, no OOC
FIU - six home games, Bowling Green OOC
MTSU - five home games, UConn OOC (2nd year as FBS Indy), 3rd year in FBS
North Texas - three home games
USA - six home games, NSU (FCS) and UTSA (2nd year w football)
Troy - five home games, Missouri OOC, note 3rd year in FBS
WKU - six home games, C. Ark. (FCS), S. Fl., 3rd year in FBS
people may want to temper expectations it seems.

I was not upset we weren't going to McNeese, but for the love of pete, you would think you could get Western or Chattanooga to come instead of Campbell.
I've already stated and will say it again. There has to be openings on the same date with anybody we want to play for a contract to be made.

Agree, also I wouldn't exactly expect a SoCon reunion tour when we schedule FCS games in the future either. Most SoCon and Southland teams go for a big check when scheduling their FBS opponent (e.g. SEC & ACC) we're not going to be writing a $500k check to our FCS opponents. So other than an occasional local interest game vs WCU or ETSU (I see them in the SoCon future) I would learn to live with local Big South or MEAC teams as our FCS home only opponents.JCline0429 wrote:Appersrule wrote:People are not getting my point. I had not thought about the payouts to FCS teams. Thanks for your reply, 97App.

That's the #1 issue and I think that's might be why Campbell might have been easy to add. Aren't they kind of new to football?JCline0429 wrote:Appersrule wrote:People are not getting my point. I had said the same thing about playing WCU, I think they get close to 1 mill for some of their games. That's why they're playing 3 FBS teams next year.97APP wrote:Agree, also I wouldn't exactly expect a SoCon reunion tour when we schedule FCS games in the future either. Once again don't forget about the B1G banning games against FCS teams. Usually when one conference makes a change like that the others follow quickly. They are all focused on SOS and TV rating which means no more FCS games.

The SEC has said publicly that it doesn't plan to follow the Big Ten's lead. The other three major conferences have been mute on the subject, indicating they prefer the status quo. The ACC officials I've talked to privately say that they have no plans to discontinue playing FCS teams. This idea is solely the creation of the Big Ten and doesn't appear to be gaining momentum.

I just hope the final FBS OOC game will be either Marshall or ECU coming to Boone. That'd be sweet. Go App!

Maybe for now, but all it takes in one Big Ten schools to be choosen for SOS over another conference. SEC doesn't have to worry about it, but the others might.AppGrad78 wrote:The SEC has said publicly that it doesn't plan to follow the Big Ten's lead. Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
The SEC plans to remedy its strength-of-scheduling problem by adding a ninth conference game. That will reduce SEC schools' opportunities to schedule FCS opponents by approximately one fourth, but it won't dramatically change the landscape of Division I football like the Big Ten's proposal would have if it were enacted throughout FBS.Saint3333 wrote:Maybe for now, but all it takes in one Big Ten schools to be choosen for SOS over another conference. I don't know the nuts and bolts and technicalities of scheduling but are we supposed to believe that Campbell university is the only FCS team we could pay to come to Boone and play us? I think this is the biggest dud we have ever scheduled. Ever.
I never complained about scheduling before but wasn't one of the much hyped benefits of FBS to play a better, stronger schedule? What the hell is Cobb doing? This is embarrassing.

11 FBS opponents, including Michigan and 1 FCS opponent pretty much trumps 11 FCS opponents, which could include A&T, Savannah St, Coastal, and the like and 1 FBS opponent.fjblair wrote:...wasn't one of the much hyped benefits of FBS to play a better, stronger schedule? Re: McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Campbell as our only FCS on our schedule and here is why.
Who else is playing Campbell????????? UNCC
While UNCC sneaks by or possibly loses this game we should win by 40-50+
This would be great for recruiting and reminding UNCC where they stand in the pecking order.
Since they wont play us we might as well embarrass a common opponents.

What do you think of these:fjblair wrote:I think this is the biggest dud we have ever scheduled. Ever.
Jacksonville
A&T
Savannah State
Mars Hill
Gardner Webb
Lenoir Rhyne
Out of all those weaksauce opponents we've scheduled over the past 8 years, are you willing to say all of them are better than Campbell?

Did you read the article on GoASU? This game was scheduled before we got an FBS invite. It is also the week after Michigan, when we will probably need a game to lick our wounds.fjblair wrote:I don't know the nuts and bolts and technicalities of scheduling but are we supposed to believe that Campbell university is the only FCS team we could pay to come to Boone and play us? Worst game ever is a bit dramatic. We played A&T and Savannah State in consecutive weeks in 2011. After the last Michigan game we hosted Lenoir Rhyne.
