Exactly, that view of Howard's Knob is synonymous with the stadium and should be left alone. If anything should be done in that direction other than a renovation of Owens, it should be something like a new score board. Any seating expansion should be made on the hill, making a horse shoe.APPdiesel wrote:Plus those dorms are atrocious. Good work. My comment about short term was to say, I believe
this could be accomplished in the short term with reasonable
expense. Would you even have to dig up the track? Just work over it and disguise what is left with black. Be ready when Wake and possible ECU or others come to town.

I think covering it would look even more hokey than just leaving it.dlh71 wrote:Good work. My comment about short term was to say, I believe

And I agree this is pretty much what every person on this board has asked for. I was just relaying what The Man himself said on Thursday.hotrod2001 wrote:This was the rendering they were touting a few years ago. Someone's posted it here before I forgot who, probably moose. I believe that's the plan where they add dorms to the stadium basically and bowl in the Owens endzone. He said there were options on how the track would be handled but didn't dive any deeper.APPdiesel wrote:I tweeted hotrod's photo to DG saying "I found your new screen saver". But he's right. Expansion should be a product of demand. Again, those of us who are logical understand that there likely IS a plan in place, but these are things the general public are not privy to. We're all clamoring for info but they just can't divulge that info to us.

Either way the track needs to go...especially if you plan to install permanent endzone seating which renders it useless. It looked bad at Ohio State, looked bad at Kansas, and looked bad at Duke, even though I think Wallace Wade's track was still usable...even then everyone in the ACC referred to WWC as the armpit of the conference prior to its upgrades.

NO Tuesday night games, please Doug, do all you can.
I wish Karl would clue in and do away with these, I don't think 30% full stadiums on National TV is as good for the Sunbelt as he thinks it is.

ESPN calls these shots, not Karl Benson.AppOrange wrote:NO Tuesday night games, please Doug, do all you can.

My guess is that the amount of money ESPN gives Karl and the SBC to broadcast games on Thursday far outweighs the amount of money that would be made up at the gate anyway.
ESPN doesn't care how many people are at these games. A double edged sword to say the least.

Sun Belt folks probably see this in the same manner the MAC folks see it. Thursday night game puts their conference in the forefront and not overshadowed by everyone else on Saturday.APPARJ wrote:ESPN calls these shots, not Karl Benson.AppOrange wrote:NO Tuesday night games, please Doug, do all you can.

Funny, wasn't that the logic behind Thursday night games in the first place? Then the P5 conferences saw that the strategy worked and decided to get a taste.hotrod2001 wrote: Sun Belt folks probably see this in the same manner the MAC folks see it. Not sure if it is a new sound system. Gillin tweeted they've had sound techs there this week. Could just be tuning things up for optimal performance in that settingYosef10 wrote:Your wishes have been answered. New sound system in KBS is ready to go.

Great work here, my only tweaks:hotrod2001 wrote:Take out the track, expand the endzones, expand the student section, blacken the endzones, invert the "A" so that the wide shots are always showing a full crowd, and viola!
- Do not invert the block A on the 50 yard line and keep it the white block A. Hopefully with the additions/updates on the visitor side will allow for more options for better setups for camera angles to hit the home side stands.
- Keep the black endzones but I'd actually prefer the "Mountaineers" in it's almost cursive form (the font used for Mountaineers inside of the Block A) to be the lettering in either white or gold.
- Add our secondary "corn cob pipe Yosef head" on the 25 yard lines opposite to the Sun Belt logos.
-Updated sound system per the recent comments on this message board
-Increased lighting for our TV night games.

Re: APP Wish List - Please send to Doug Gillin
If we keep winning 9 or 10 games a season, keep getting these big time late season games like Ga Southern and Arkansas State and focus on regional (NC, VA, TN, KY) out of conference games, I think this idea is very plausible. I agree with you Goose, I'd very much like to reinforce the script "Mountaineers" brand by using that in the end zones.ASUGoose wrote:Great work here, my only tweaks:hotrod2001 wrote:Take out the track, expand the endzones, expand the student section, blacken the endzones, invert the "A" so that the wide shots are always showing a full crowd, and viola!

I agree - I've seen that same branding on the front of the Women's soccer jerseys and I've also thought that font looked really cool. I'd like to see App use this branding more as well on our apparel!APPdiesel wrote:If we keep winning 9 or 10 games a season, keep getting these big time late season games like Ga Southern and Arkansas State and focus on regional (NC, VA, TN, KY) out of conference games, I think this idea is very plausible. Doug has been nothing but an outstanding AD since he arrived at App. He has truly listened to the fans and made the changes that are necessary without breaking the bank. He is what App needs right now and I cannot wait to see what plans he has for the future of Appalachian over the next year.T-Dog wrote:

Gillin first retweeted a tweet from an App volleyball coach saying "clearly we have some new speakers in KBS". Either way everything I've seen on Twitter has been very positive. Couldn't be happier with Gillin, even before this move.

Doug Gillin is killing it as the new AD
He obviously has big plans for Appalachian State Athletics across the board, and is on the right track to make Kidd Brewer Stadium one of the best sports venues in the country.

Here it is with the suggested tweaks, added a new scoreboard in the north endzone too:APPdiesel wrote:If we keep winning 9 or 10 games a season, keep getting these big time late season games like Ga Southern and Arkansas State and focus on regional (NC, VA, TN, KY) out of conference games, I think this idea is very plausible.
