Re: Cost of Attendance Announced
I have offered up the idea before for an alternative to the COA but have not gotten any feedback good or bad and would love to hear some from somebody easily more knowledgeable than myself. Why not offer COA in the form of a grant that each athlete must apply for? My son received some form of a grant each semester while in school. Typically it was $500-$1000 and believe me it was welcomed in our home. He didn't have to pay that money back and it went towards his tuition and fees, etc. I realize that there are many college student athletes who come from poor homes and whose parents can't afford to support their son or daughter. I fully believe that there are many student athletes who come from fairly well off homes and some come from moderate income homes. Young men and women from the two latter cases could have parents (or other family members) who might easily be able to send their son or daughter a couple hundred bucks every month for spending money. For those who can't and qualify they can get a COA. Seems way more reasonable to me instead of some across the board deal that will undoubtedly get out of hand. How long will the future first round DE at Alabama be content to get the same money as the third string punter who will never get on the field? My guess is not very long brother!

The bigger issue in my mind is this is going to be used on the recruiting trail. We have already seen big differences in CoA numbers even within the SB (see Troy). I wonder what ECU or UNCC vs App might look like? Not just for football, App can't afford to pay all athletes at this time while others can role it out across the board.
I hate this idea and think it is stupid for a very large percentage of athletes.
