OL Tobias Edge Campbell has been suspended from the team after he was arrested on July 28th and charged with larceny by an employee according to a local law enforcment citation. He was issued a $2,500 secured bond and a Sept. 7 court date. From the team, they are going to let the process play out and his future will be accessed after his court case is completed. This is as in depth as it needs to be and we should do the same on here and let the case go through the process as far as the young man is concerned.
As for the program and it's effect, Parker Collins is now snapping with the 1's and this is one reason Tyson Fernandez is playing both sides of the ball right now. Several players are also snapping the ball for us to set backups. If there is anything that could be considered good in this bad situation it is the fact that it happened at the start of camp, we've had other upperclassmen snapping for us since spring, the freshmen are here now and are getting some center reps as well, and we have the entire period for everyone to get practice in at different positions. No doubt this does hurt as the OL is the one position where we don't need to lose anyone else but Coach Clark and the rest of the staff will do what needs to be done to get us ready.

We've had relatively few legal issues since Satt took over, but the coaches obviously can't control that completely. What they can control is how they respond when something does happen. I think Satt has shown good judgment in that regard.NewApp wrote: I was hoping all this crap stopped when Jerry Moore left. Not being realistic, I guess.

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Very true. I don't know if people have noticed as sometimes the smaller infractions don't get found out but things don't get brought back to campus anymore to be dealt with. Satt lays down his own punishment (believe me once Iron Mike gets through with guys they really don't want to mess up again) but he also makes them go through the system as they should. One infraction, two punishments. These are kids and you will never stop it all but you don't often hear of someone messing up again, and if they do it usually is it for them. You don't want to give up on someone if it's a one time thing, depending on exactly what it is, and I like the way they give someone a chance at redemption but make no mistake. Satt and company don't play around.EastHallApp wrote:We've had relatively few legal issues since Satt took over, but the coaches obviously can't control that completely. Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
My guess is he pleads no contest/guilty to a lesser charge or pre trial intervention gets him the deferred prosecution. A boatload of community service and a 2-3 game suspension....an apology to the team,,,and then Iron Mike...Now if the coach were Sheridan ( for those of you old enough to remember) he would be kicked of the team forever.

I'm not very familiar with Watauga County, but deferred prosecution programs are generally unavailable for felonies in my experience. He's probably going to continue a few times and hope the State's witnesses don't show up. If they continue to do so he'll plea to a lesser or go to trial.
I don't expect him to suit up this season.

No it isn't realistic at all to expect any coach to babysit every player on the team. Stuff happens, these are kids and our program is clean.NewApp wrote:I was hoping all this crap stopped when Jerry Moore left. Very true but Moore was criticized heavily on here for all the off the field incidents that were happening. The difference is Satterfield knows how to get them off the team and out the door and keep it relatively quiet. Moore either didn't know how or wouldn't.fjblair wrote:No it isn't realistic at all to expect any coach to babysit every player on the team. The difference is under Moore we had guys accused/convicted? of sexual assault and more. This isn't anything close to that magnitude and it's an isolated incident.

There was underage drinking. Too, we have had assault charges under Satterfield. FWIW, under Satterfield, one sued us after he left the program. One assaulted a police office. Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Getting into a tit-for-tat argument over which coach ran/runs a clean program is counterproductive. They both did/do. Jerry's preference was to keep problems out of the newspapers and out of the courts. Scott seems more willing to let law enforcement do its job. But if we're lucky enough to have Scott at App for 24 years, my guess is we'll have about the same number of screwups that Jerry did ... which in comparison to other programs wasn't many.

Re: Edge-Campbell Suspended
Find me a college football team that doesn't have underage drinking going on, as well as a college campus in general. I won't hold my breath. Satterfield may have been the coach at the time the lawsuit was filed but he certainly wasn't the head coach at the time the kid was recruited. The kid also sued the school to clear his name but I won't go down that rabbit hole. I do not recall the assault of an officer and can't find anything online about it either. Didn't say it was a perfect program, none are, but it's pretty damn clean under SS. Not sure really what the point of your comment was. I assume a reaction.NewApp wrote:There was underage drinking. The post is about a single player who was suspended recently, not every legal incident that's happened in the past three decades.NewApp wrote:Appsolutely wrote:Must we stir this cesspool again?
