Fair point: a lot of people don't like Nevada's strategy, but I see it as being pragmatic. And it rings true to recruits: any one good knows they're going to Nevada to start their career, then move on.rbarthle17 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 1:42 pmYou shouldn't feel good about it. The "successful" program at our level is going to be the one the embraces the new normal and makes the most of it.
Nevada has the right idea. Pitch to the kids that need the opportunity to showcase and improve that you are the right ones to help them grow until they are ready for the P2 programs to come calling. Then go out and actually make good on your part of it and become that developmental program that becomes a mid-path destination for that second level talent to blossom at and move on.
That's who we are now. We do the player development and become basically a juco for the p2.

You can also start developing new types of pipelines. Start delivering on building up players for the power schools to poach, and then those programs start pointing kids your way that they might want a few years from now because they trust you to get them what (who?) they want.Bootsy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 2:14 pmFair point: a lot of people don't like Nevada's strategy, but I see it as being pragmatic. Re: Portal time 25-26
OK, I get the knee jerk reaction to Kirby Smart and that's fine, but listen to the video again. He isn't telling these young men not to look to the portal. His comment is about all the social media announcements. They announce they're going to the portal. They announce they're staying. His comment is "How bout you announce going to get better and practice...." He even pointed out that if you're going elsewhere, you need to get better. If you're staying, you need to get better.
Seems people interpret this as "don't go into the portal" but that's not what he said. Feel free to create your own narrative though. It's no skin off my nose. I 100% agree with his comment. Others are completely free to disagree.
