Per twitter ATH Lee Wright (6-0, 195) of York Comprehensive High School, McConnells, S.C. has committed to App. He was one of WSOC Charlotte's Big 22 players this year.

Might explain why we stopped recruiting Nobles.

I "think" there are a couple coming in next weekend. Can't be sure yet but that's what I was told.

Gossett and Nunn both played OL and DL, and Raiford, the Navy commit who visited the first weekend, is still up in the air on here or there. He was also both DL and OL. Guess we can plug someone in should we need to. It's not over yet. We'll see how next weekend plays out.

Apparently ATH Josh Nobles is a little miffed at us now. These are just two of his rant posts. Rivals has him listed as a WR and other sites add KR also. I think we are pretty loaded with both positions. Sorry Josh.
Sounds like we made a good decision.

I know there has been quite the discussion about Rivals star rating on here and I tend to agree that too much emphasis is placed on the "lower" ratings. However I was surprised that on my last visit to the App Rivals site that all of our "commits" now have 2 stars except for Covington who has 3. I do think we have a nice class shaping up. Anyone else notice or is this common practice?

To address a few earlier posts in my opinion there are several different kinds of recruits/recruiting.

In a perfect world it should be about what the school can do for the kid, academically and athletically.

Regardless of any other points, relationships are very important. NOTHING good happens in any situation when you are dealing with students and athletes until a relationship is built.

So when recruiting AT ASU, I think you have to sell the school (college), the facilities, and build a quick relationship with the kid. You have to be a good judge as to if mom needs to be sold, dad, or just the kid. A lot of kids today need a "family" atmosphere that they can hang their hat on. The thing "I" like about our staff is they are all able to converse and "build" that initial relationship.

If you can't sell ASU's facilities you might not need to be up on the mountain. And for the degree programs we have those are easy sells! (We do not have a bunch of "higher professional" programs of study). (engineering, law, medicine, etc.)

I listened to one of our coaches talk to a kid who wanted to be an engineer. The coach said the road to an degree in engineering is a 5-6 year path. The kid can get his undergrad and easily transfer to any school of engineering if his grades are right to start with and may face less scrutiny than a kid already at the other school.

ASU from facilities to school/colleges is a pretty easy sell....the relationship is something else, but I like our crowd. They can sell ASU, themselves as position coaches, and thus the kid!

I do not think our staff is sitting around waiting on someone to fall in their laps...they are working this recruiting trail! We will see how well they do in a couple of weeks!
Go APPS!

Brown holds an offer from UAB and I read somewhere that Gossett was being recruited heavy by Cincinnati but I can't see to find my link to that story. I remember he and a teammate of his (LB) went there on a visit and maybe to camp. I remember reading it but I just can't find it right now. I'll send it to you when I do.

I don't disagree. All schools on our level could make the same pitches right? They can all be on the same footing with building relationships. But you have to admit other schools are not on the same level with pitching the facilities. Yes, they absolutely sell themselves. It is a huge advantage to build the relationship and then just be able to bring them to KBS and let that talk for itself. Is my viewpoint really that outrageous?

Thanks for the insight. By my count Gossett & Nunn are the only two commits who do not hold FBS offers. AS Dath Vader would say...

With Singleton opting for Duke we probably need to ink another DB. He would have a shot to play in his home town come 2014!

Dewan Olive-Abinojar‏@D1Dewan

Offered by Appalachian State #Blessed
With Singleton opting for Duke we probably need to ink another DB. He would have a shot to play in his home town come 2014!
I think you're probably correct although after watching Brown's videos I wasn't too upset about losing Singleton. Although this guy is small (other sites have him listed at 160 and 165) I have been watching videos of him and he has very good technique and had 135 tackles his senior year from the CB spot. We'll see if he commits to us instead of Hawaii (has an offer from them) or anyone else who might step up in the next couple of weeks.

However I was surprised that on my last visit to the App Rivals site that all of our "commits" now have 2 stars except for Covington who has 3. I do think we have a nice class shaping up. Anyone else notice or is this common practice?
Yeah, just a few days ago only 3 of our commits had any stars, and now they all do. Not sure that two stars really means anything and lots of two star guys always seem to pop up near the end of recruiting season. Seems like in the past, I heard/read that if a recruit gets an FBS-school offer they are "automatically" a two-star guy? Don't know if that is correct.

Thanks for the insight. By my count Gossett & Nunn are the only two commits who do not hold FBS offers. AS Dath Vader would say...

Just looked at the Rivals listing and Gossett also holds and offer from UAB. Guess that only leaves Nunn without an FBS offer.
