I hope so. Otherwise, he could make more money as a PE teacher/DC at Dorman.

My comments was more directed at the statement Shanesy made, "There must be great comfort for Woody in knowing he can stay with the Terriers and make a good living with no moving fans for the rest of his career."
If Shanesy considers Woody at a point where he is "making a good living" he is not really representing the situation very accurately.

Unless Satterfield has some kind of FBS escalator in his salary, I doubt that much...Scott's only making that, right? I'd guess he was making $50-60k there. In which case - if we doubled, he'd be our highest paid assistant, and maybe Scott decided to just hire a QB coach at a lesser price, and oversee the offense...believing it is more important to address defensive inefficiencies with a homerun hire, rather than bring in a true OC.TheMoody1 wrote:AppinVA wrote:I doubt a coordinator makes more than 100k at this level.
Could be we are offering in the 150k range because of things that will happen in the near future.
If defense is his priority, I applaud that...and we should all be very encouraged that our offensive minded coach realizes the need for balance. There are many offensive "gurus" (and defensive as well) who practically ignore the other side of the ball because they're so confident in their abilities.

I would expect an official announcement tomorrow from Coach Satterfield and I think almost everyone will be happy about it. It is a very good time to be a Mountaineer!

No, according to Charlie Cobb, Satterfield’s contract is for four years, through the 2016 season, with an annual base salary of $225,000! There's no way we could have started Satterfield at $150,000. That was Capel's entry level salary with *almost* zero experience.appgrad wrote:Unless Satterfield has some kind of FBS escalator in his salary, I doubt that much...Scott's only making that, right? Satterfield will actually make a lot more than $225,000 with camp revenue, Nike supplements and other perks.

My mistake! I was under the impression he made less than Jerry - who I thought "only" made about $170k.
That makes me feel better about the scale of pay we can offer assistants.

People on the Wofford messages board quote "reliable" sources that Woody is headed our way.
Thank God. I couldn't live another year with Jones as DC. Guy is clueless.

To get an FBS calibre coach who can take us consistently beyond mediocrity, we'll need to be in the neighborhood of $300,000 plus benefits for a head coach.appgrad wrote:My mistake! I was under the impression he made less than Jerry - who I thought "only" made about $170k.

We may already have that guy. Let's see what happens with Scott and IF an FBS invite happens before worrying about that.

I think we can agree the current leadership we have has been proactive, something we could not have said about the former.

This has to be gut wrenching for Ankle biter fans. The guy was a player and a successful long time coach. Can you imagine if Satterfield was hired off to Georgia Southern or something?

That would be the day. Coach Satt would have to dig up his middle school playbook to prepare for that job!Gonzo wrote:This has to be gut wrenching for Ankle biter fans. Oh the humanity!!!! You act as if the world would end if Scott left. Woody isn't the only successful defensive coach out there and Scott certainly isn't the only guy who can coach a multiple spread offense.Gonzo wrote:This has to be gut wrenching for Ankle biter fans. fish, that's not the point. It's a matter of one conference team poaching an active coach from another conference team for the same exact job with the new team. It'a a bit of a power play and I'd be a little upset if it happened to us, but not because we couldn't replace the coach with someone as capable.

Just saying. This circumstance stings a whole lot more than just losing the coach would be.Kgfish wrote:Oh the humanity!!!! You act as if the world would end if Scott left. Re: Nate Woody (Wofford DC) to App?
That's the thing in our league, though...we wouldn't ever lose a top assistant for the same role at another SoCon school. We are the big dog...and I'm glad we're acting like it with this hire. If we're going to stay in FCS for whatever reason, we need to press our facilities and fanbase advantages in a major way with both recruits and coaches.goapps93 wrote:

Re: Nate Woody (Wofford DC) to App?
No poaching going on. Just a more attractive employer offering more cash and a better opportunity. Nothing sinister about that. ASU is headed places Wofford can never go and if Woody wants to be a part of it he needs to take the offer. If he is happy with his life in Sparkle City then he needs to stay. He needs to decide what is best for his family.goapps93 wrote:Kgfish wrote:Oh the humanity!!!! You act as if the world would end if Scott left.
