Re: Portal time 25-26
Ok here’s another one a DIII guy the QB from Cortland Mike Resigno dual threats.. threw for 1700 yds ran for 1000 yds and is a sophomore. He’s also 6’2 and 215lbs. Oh and SUNY CORTLAND is where Doug Gillin went to college. I’d give this kid a serious look too.

I’m assuming NIL funds are taxed. No way am I going somewhere like NJ, NY, CA, etc where they are going to tax half of my pay.

While New Brunswick isn’t the prettiest part of NJ it’s pretty nice and convenient to NYC. I’d definitely choose to live there over a lot of SEC and big 10 locales for ~ the same money
Only real option in NY is Syracuse which is nice down to the finger lakes but you’re starting to get into the NY plains and all the desireable locations for me are at least 2 hours east.
Cali is awesome to live mostly I’d choose any P4 school and SDSU
Also if Cal Poly SLO ever paid P4 wages I’d definitely live there

Just curious if some of these guys consider what their actual take home pay will be after taxes. I’m assuming some do, but a lot do not.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:48 amDepends on what they offered him vs everyone else.appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:33 amOoof![]()

Re: Portal time 25-26
I’m sure schools in Lower tax states include that as part of their pitch. However, I bet agents get their fees on gross so the unscrupulous ones will push to take the highest gross regardless of taxappstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:51 amJust curious if some of these guys consider what their actual take home pay will be after taxes. Shorter is located in Georgia. It is a D2 member of Conference Carolinas.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:22 amIs there a height limitation for admittance to Shorter U.?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:24 amOur last Marshall OL transfer worked out alrightbiggie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:21 amMarshall OL Christian Richter had his official Visit to App State

Re: Portal time 25-26
No disrespect intended to Porter because he seems like a nice and good kid, but he somehow signed with two different agencies this offseason without realizing it. I don’t think tax rates were a consideration for him.appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:51 amJust curious if some of these guys consider what their actual take home pay will be after taxes. The biggest issue with this portal is that there are no qualifications or certificates required to be an agent like there is in the NFL. It is literally every man for himself and most of the time, it is the player who gets shafted with ridiculous agent fees.

I'm sure there are good agents, but I assume there are plenty just out there making a killing off these kids that don't know what is going on.

Re: Portal time 25-26
Agents still have to be licensed in every state. There is an application process and you have to meet certain requirements in order to be an agent. What i haven't looked into is whether the ncaa is going to require anything of the agents. So there is some filtering due to having to be qualified for a license. One of my masters is in sports management and I had looked into what to do for a NC license last year. Im already qualified if I wanted to pay the few hundred bucks, I just wouldn't know where to go from there as I would have to build some sort of clientele and be licensed in every state I wanted to work in. It would be more work than you might think to steer everyone to App.
