Nate Woody (Wofford DC) to App?
Re: Nate Woody (Wofford DC) to App?
He may not be going anywhere. Just trying to get more money out of Wofford or be considered to replace Ayers some day.

Good...nobody wants to have to take an ED pill to get a Woody.ASU_MBA wrote:Woody is coming to ASU, announcement tomorrow or Wednesday.

Now we just need to hire a Buzz to go with Woody! Oh wait, we did that a couple of times already. How did that work out?

I hate to bring this up but I doubt we would go after woody if JM was still here. JM respected Ayers too much to go after and poach his assistants. Satterfield on the other hand has no ties to Ayers and just want to win. The Woody hire is HUGE. He has done alot more with alot less.

Yup. Jerry Moore would have kept Dale Jones in play for another year of a below average, under-performing Defense.
Woody is one of, if not the best D Coord in all of FCS land right now.

That was Moore's Achilles Heel IMO. He frequently let personal relationships get in the way of what was best for ASU. I have nothing but good things to say about Moore usually, but that point is pretty hard to deny.ASUPATCH wrote:I hate to bring this up but I doubt we would go after woody if JM was still here. Im most excited to see what lineup Woody will put out on the field, particularly the defensive backfield. Certainly shouldnt be hard to make at least some improvement. 73rd in the nation in pass D is horrendous, especially with 3 option teams in the conference. I suspect with the new additions Blackmon, Gray, Covington and returning guys Middleton, Lott, and Walker, he'll have at least as much as he's had to work with at Wofford.

For the immediate future, I'll just be happy if he can teach the DB's to look for the ball. Our interception number would have been awesome the last few years if they had done that

Yep, the only roles Blalock should be contributing to this upcoming season are special teams and bench.Gonzo wrote:Step one: Bench Blaylock for the love of God.GlassOnion wrote:Im most excited to see what lineup Woody will put out on the field, particularly the defensive backfield. Re: Nate Woody (Wofford DC) to App?
Wofford is known for a great pass rush and is always near the top in SoCon and nation in sacks. I am interested to see the defensive front he puts out. In the past he usually has a small but heavy motor DE or two like Ameet Ball.
If Woody can get our pass rush going (which was non existent last year), that will lead to more INTs and better secondary play.

I remember App teams years ago that the defense was what you were there to really watch. At one time I had more faith in the defense scoring than the offense.

Yup. I started following App in '98...and I realize how spoiled we were Defensively, especially at DE...we went from Rocky Hunt and Jimmy Freeman to Josh Jeffries and Freeman to Jeffries and Stovall to Stovall and Moore and Hunter to Hunter and Murrell over 7 seasons. It's been a while since we could terrorize QBs like that.GoApps70 wrote:I remember App teams years ago that the defense was what you were there to really watch. Heck - we pretty much won our first two titles because our Offense scored enough points, ran the ball well, and didn't get stupid delay of game penalties, and our D shut down the other team. Our obsession with offense didn't really show up until '07.

Dexter Coakley was fun to watch just a little earlier than that. Senior in 94 maybe?
