Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Old rivalries, familiar programs and away games you can drive to and from in one day are going to fall away. As a member of the SunBelt App fans are going to have to adjust to new programs. That's not going to happen over night and there will most likely be a number of games in the near future that may not draw a lot of interest from App fans. But that will change.
The other thing to keep in mind is it's not just the teams in the SunBelt that App fans are going to have to get to know, it's also teams in the MAC, C-USA and the AAC. The SunBelt has a pretty strong rivalry going with the MAC. The two leagues have played, and continue to play, a number of regular season games against each other and are connected in more than one bowl game. Get to know the MAC.
I can also understand people wanting to play the best competition but in the MAC, and in the SunBelt as well, the best teams come and go over time. No one in the MAC can stay on top for long. Northern Illinois is having a great run right now but that will fade in time, probably when Jordan Lynch their outstanding quarterback graduates after this season. Lynch is to Northern Illinois what Armanti Edwards was to App State. Miami, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Toledo, Ball State and Western Michigan have all been on top at one time or the other. Ohio is headed for its fifth winning season in a row and I don't see how they can keep that up. It's a real roller coaster in this league so don't worry about who on top when you schedule a team from the MAC.
A big problem shared by the SunBelt and the MAC is we can't hang on to good coaches. As soon as a coach has a couple winning seasons he moves to a larger program, usually one of the P5 schools. A current example is Pete Lembo at Ball State. He left Elon for Ball State I think because he saw it as a ticket to the big time. He has certainly turned Ball State around and their fans are already talking about how much longer he will stay in Muncie, Indiana. At Central Michigan we saw the same thing happen with Brian Kelly (Cincinnati then Notre Dame) and Butch Jones (Cincinnati then Tenn). In the SunBelt we recently had Gus Malzahn move to Auburn after serving only one year at Arkansas State. As coaches come and go, MAC and SunBelt programs rise and fall. You won't find many Jerry Moores in the MAC.
I'm a Central Michigan grad and fan but I adopted App State a long, long time ago as my favorite FCS team. I have stayed with App State even after the decision to move to FBS - it's CMU first and App State a close second when it comes to college football. Some of you may know I attend at least one game in Boone each year. This year it was Georgia Southern. I have also watched App State against Chattanooga and Georgia this season on my computer. I'll probably get to see one more game before the season is over. I also listen to Around the Mountain with David Jackson frequently and watch sports highlights on AppStateTV. I have an App State app on my smart phone. I mention all that because I like to think I know a little bit about the university and the football program.
I have long wanted to see a game between Central Michigan and App State. I hope you can understand why. Now, you might say who cares about Central Michigan, there is no App State fan interest in that program and besides they are not playing well and we want to play the best. I have already covered that, but once more my answer would be let's schedule the game and see where each team stands when the game is played.
My guess is the two teams will meet in a bowl game in a few years. I'll just have to wait for that one. One of my friends told me I'll have to start working on a new pull over shirt that is half App State and half CMU. I have to think about that one.

I'm excited about potential home and home series with ECU, Wake, Marshall, ODU, MTSU, WKU, Charlotte and hopefully JMU as I am the SB teams. But we have to get rid of the track and add some seats before the home with Wake & ECU part comes around.

We have ways of adding seats without removing the track except we did box ourselves in as far as adding an upper deck on the West Side by building the complex tower first.

Agree - don't see what the track would have to do with attracting bigger games (other than looks) -JCline0429 wrote:Kgfish wrote:I'm excited about potential home and home series with ECU, Wake, Marshall, ODU, MTSU, WKU, Charlotte and hopefully JMU as I am the SB teams. I understand you are one of the few who feel that way. I was talking about those that are asking for expansion. They never start with we should pay. They always start with we should have.Saint3333 wrote:I said that the 12th time this discussion come up before the season.

Our society as a whole seems to have that mentality - we should have rather than I should pitch in to help purchase ...bcoach wrote:I understand you are one of the few who feel that way. That leads me to The Yosef Club. We need 22 new members before the end of the upcoming week to meet our membership goal. If you're not a part of Yosef, please consider joining. Every living alumnus times $10 is more than $1,000,000. Every little bit helps. Thanks.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
If we ever hope to get a home game with ECU, Wake or Marshall KBS needs to seat - as in a seat and not a plot of grass - a minimum of 30,000, in reality more like 35,000. KBS seats 23,000 with the temp endzone seats, 21,500 without them. ASU needs to add a minimum of 10,000+ permanent seats. Please explain where those many seats could be added without removing the track.JCline0429 wrote:Kgfish wrote:I'm excited about potential home and home series with ECU, Wake, Marshall, ODU, MTSU, WKU, Charlotte and hopefully JMU as I am the SB teams. Re: Huge scheduling news coming
How about we fill the seats already in KBS before planning to add more?
An ECU home game could attract 30,000+, but Wake has a hard time getting 5,000 to their own home games . . .

That's a problem that is shared by all but about 15-20 programs in America.midlandchip wrote:A big problem shared by the SunBelt and the MAC is we can't hang on to good coaches. As soon as a coach has a couple winning seasons he moves to a larger program, usually one of the P5 schools.
And let's face it, another problem that the Sun Belt has is that every school in the league is probably looking to jump to a better conference at the first opportunity.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Our biggest problem is, unlike the school that shall not be named and others like it, Boone isn't a regional banking center and doesn't have many millionaires and billionaires who didn't attend App but are willing to give millions just to get a building or stadium named after them. We do have quite a few multi-millionaires who spend the summers up here at the local country clubs (Grandfather, Linville, Linville Ridge, Diamond Creek, etc) and who don't have any connection to NC schools. Most of them are from the Northeast or Florida. I'm just working on a way to get a few of them interested in App. I have a few connections at several of these clubs. Just trying to figure out a way to get some money. My biggest connection passed away two years ago but I'm making it a mission to try and get us some interest. Can't hurt to try.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
Only difference is that in the past couple of years the Belt has been one of, if not the strongest, of the G5 conferences, at least in a lot of the sports. There's just a stigma attached to it. But the records of many teams against the other G5's shows that out. And it's really not going to make much of a difference because, if things keep heading down the path the P5 are setting, the G5's will have a much different look in 3 or 4 years.EastHallApp wrote:That's a problem that is shared by all but about 15-20 programs in America.

Raise my ticket price $5 per game. If we sell 15,000 tickets per game for 6 games that'll add nearly 1/2 mil to the building fund.bcoach wrote:I understand you are one of the few who feel that way. Re: Huge scheduling news coming
All but just one or two slots are full. The MAC could take one (possibly JMU) for an even 14 schools. Othetr than that about the only thing that could happen is the Big XII adds Cincinnati from the AAC and BYU to actually get to 12. That would prompt the AAC to grab one from CUSA, who grabs one from the SB or MAC.EastHallApp wrote:That's a problem that is shared by all but about 15-20 programs in America.midlandchip wrote:A big problem shared by the SunBelt and the MAC is we can't hang on to good coaches.
