Is by any chance the Wendell Murphy who funded the Murphy Football Center at NC State the father of the Wendell Murphy, Jr for whom the field in KBS is named?

Wendell "Dell" Murphy, Jr. is the son of Wendell H. Murphy. Dell is the current president of Murphy Family Ventures. They have done very well in the hog business(at one time they were the no. 1 hog producer in the world), among other things. Pete, who I believe is the brother of Dell, is the Murphy on the facade of the Murphy Center at ECU. I think the connection between Dell and ASU is his daughter, who graduated from ASU.

Bumping this thread to say: I think Dell Murphy Jr. should give back again by allowing the field to be re-named in honor of Jerry Moore.

Dell Sr is also on the Board of Visitors at NC State and as mentioned , there is also a building named after him on that campus. Too, Mr. Murphy attended Appalachian State University and is a 1990 graduate from NC State University with a degree in Swine Management

How about for $5 million, YOU could purchase the naming rights for the Athletics Center, and name it in honor of Jerry Moore. OR you could be a little more greatful to Mr. Murphy for his gift. This topic, while not exactly BBQ served in stadium cups, does come up from time to time. I'm always puzzled at why folks think Mr. Murphy should do this.

Coach Moore's contribution in growing the athletics budget totals way more than $5 million. That facility wouldn't exist without what he did for the program.

The easy solution to this is to do what Auburn (Jordan-Hare) and Alabama (Bryant-Denny) have done and just add Coach's name to the stadium and make it Moore-Brewer Stadium.

Moore-Brewer sounds a little strange, and it would take some getting used to. But - I also can't hear Bryant-Denny without thinking of actor Brian Dennehy - so there's that...

There are much more important things to talk about than changing the name of the stadium.

Not that hasn't been driven in the ground.

Dell Jr. actually attended Appalachian State University as he was my uncle's Fraternity brother.
