NC football rankings
Heard a little blurb on the David Glenn show. Voters ranking the top North Carolina football teams. App getting some "votes". Where would most of you guys rank the top teams? We ahead of Duke, Wake, State and ECU? I realize it will be painful as hell to put us behind the Holes.

Re: NC football rankings
I think we could hold our own against all of them, but I don't think we beat Unc, State or ECU.

Re: NC football rankings
Little early to tell still. Before Saturday I thought we might actually be closing the gap on Carolina. If I had to say now, I'd go:
UNC
State/App
ECU (yes I know they beat State by 3 at home)
Wake
Duke
Charlotte
Western Carolina
UNC
State/App
ECU (yes I know they beat State by 3 at home)
Wake
Duke

Re: NC football rankings
I think we are definitely top 4. Heels have some weapons but struggle against the run. State and ECU would be good matchups. This might be an interesting mythical poll to watch

Re: NC football rankings
Perhaps this is blasphemy, but since we no longer play them or share a conference with them I usually pull for them these days. And, their staff has a significant App connection.

Intent of this thread wasn't meant to bash another program but most threads go way off the rails anyway.

Re: NC football rankings
ECU has the best football program followed by App State. But in terms of ranking UNC followed by ECU. I'll put us as third. I think we can beat State, Duke, and Wake.

Re: NC football rankings
Agree. We have definitely played the toughest schedule thus far. We can make a case for third.appgrunt71 wrote:ECU has the best football program followed by App State. But in terms of ranking UNC followed by ECU. I'll put us as third. I think we can beat State, Duke, and Wake.

Re: NC football rankings
Can any of these programs point to anything that they've done to distinguish themselves above another, including us? The best thing us FBS guys in NC have to brag about are close losses to SEC powers (UGA and Tenn) and I'm not sure how good either of those teams will be this year.

Re: NC football rankings
I'd say the 6 FBS teams (UNCC hasn't done anything to qualify them as FBS) are all pretty much even right now.

Re: NC football rankings
ECU has significantly better marketing and fan engagement in their program. They seem to do things more for where they want to be (scheduling, renovations, conference push, etc.) than where they are.
The others are just P5 and can push that, but don't usually do anything special.

Re: NC football rankings
Too early to tell, but I don't think any are top 25 caliber teams. Unfortunately, I think UNC is the only one that might end up in the top 25 come the end of the season. We could, but we pretty much have to win out and win our bowl game. ECU's season is almost over with conference play getting ready to start, so expect them to go .500 the rest of the way. NC State might win only 4 more games this year, they still have Clemson, Louisville, Florida State, MIAMI, and unc on their schedule. Wake and Duke both aren't good.

For what it's worth I heard that UNC Pembroke- D2 is undefeated. That's a pretty good listing. We should keep this goingGonzo wrote:UNC
