Tommy Bowman @AppTrailWSJ
Jerry Moore will not return as coach at Appalachian State next season. Scott Satterfield will serve as interim coach. #Appstate
Sad that he's going out after yesterdays loss such a heatbreaker

Is this confirmed or just speculation?

Don't know why a journalist would report it if it wasn't but weirder things have happened

And that fact that an interim coach has been announced makes it seem likely to be true.

I just a whole thing on if Jerry would return or not for my article.
Wow. I'm stunned. I thought this would happen though. Jerry and DJ were crying on the post-game show last night.

Damn. Shocking, but not altogether surprising. It will be interesting to hear the details of what precisely went down.
24 Seasons
10 SoCon Championships
Overall Record: 215–87 (.712)
Southern Conference Record: 144–40 (.783)
18 Playoff Appearances
3 National Championships
Thank you, Coach Moore, for giving your all for Appalachian State.

I would've thought the magic number would've been 25....
I certainly hope it's not a health-related issue... It SHOULD NOT BE anything directly related to success on the football field..

Oh, we're never going to see a coach spend decades at ASU again. And that's regardless of the level at which we play. But you know, I'm okay with that. Hopefully this starts a string of up and coming, hungry coaches that come in and continue to push ASU forward before (inevitably) moving on.
While one chapter ends today, another is just beginning for Appalachian football.
I'm excited to see what happens next.

If Tommy is reporting it, I'd say it's accurate.
Hope Satterfield gets the nod, permanently and looks to which coaches need to stay and which ones need to go.
Would also say that we'd get Satterfield for a long time to come if we get FBS invite.

Coach after coach after coach does not mean success... Just ask the Stink... Took them quite a while to find one that fits...
All those that were calling for Moore's head these past few years are going to be eating crow if the turnover doesn't work...
(Of course if we're still successful without Coach Moore I'll gladly eat crow)

Things is, Jerry didn't want a retirement parade. If it was up to the AD office, you bet they would have promoted the "Jerry Moore Retirement Tour" to sell tickets in a down year at the gate.

It did, and now they're back to being Georgia Southern. I think it's imperative that Cobb gets this transition right the first time. In fact I'd say it's going to be his more important decision and hire to date.
I know there's lots of talk about App being better next year, but the conference and OOC games are going to be tougher. Just check the road games: at Montana, at Georgia, at Wofford (lost in 2011), at Furman (lost in 2011), at The Citadel..that could conceivably be 5 losses, and that's not counting a Nooga team that returns just about everyone coming to Boone.
This one is going to be extremely important.
