Yep. Rumor has it that we'll be searching for a new coach.
But seriously, usually when the coach leaves, I would expect to see some players leaving also, but other than that, who knows?

More than the usual turmoil that surrounds the departure of a coach?

depends on the circumstances of hypothetical coach's departure. this deals with the circumstances of the "secret agreement" and did not come from any message board that i have read

Well then, don't leave us hanging.

You know what I always say, "Don't let the door hit'ya where the good Lord split'ya!" If folks want to be martyrs for JM then so be it. The earth will keep spinning and App football will keep rolling right along.

This is one of the reasons that I hope an "Announcement" will be made soon for FBS land, so we can shift our focus to building and transitioning our program for that. Being FBS will help in recruitment and hopefully keep any players and coaches who may be thinking about bolting,

Wouldn't surprise me if this was more "talk" than action at this point. Do they know with certainty who the coach will be? or what the status regarding FBS will be? where will they go? how will it benefit them? have they really considered the cost/harm to them of such a move?
I'm sure some players are upset like some fans, but before anyone hits the panic button, give it some time and see how reality plays out. Talk is cheap.

I, for one, am enjoying the whole "sky is falling" mentality from the fanbase. We will be fine.

So am I, especially the doomsay over on the Appfan blog comments. You'd think Cobb placed a steel barrier behind the boulder preventing the Resurrection by some of their reactions!

Not really! I've been around for every football transition since Jim Duncan left in the mid-60s. There is
always some disappointment and attrition. And there's
always some excitement and euphoria when the new coach is named. A few kids may transfer elsewhere; a few may remain in school, but give up football; and a few may simply drop out and go home.
In the end, we'll be just fine. It may take a while for everything to fall in place. It may take a full season. The fact is that Jerry wasn't going to coach forever. Transitions are inevitable and messy. But ASU football will march right along.
As for assistant coaches, that'll be up to the new head coach. Most of the assistants are working on one year contracts that will end sometime between now and June 30. Those that aren't retained may find other positions well before their contracts expire.
As they say, it'll all come out in the wash! Trust me!
[I remember how many fans were appsolutely certain the world was coming to an end when Sparky Woods left. The attrition was heavy--but guess what? We're still going. Imagine that!]

I think one of the issues here is that many have not been through a coaching change. It's been 24 years since we've had a coaching change so we may not know how to act (or react).

Just been sitting here thinking about all that is going on and some of the comments made about business models, decisions etc... We need to go FBS for recruiting. There are people on here who say they have read the report and people who claim to be able to make good business decisions. Would someone who has read the report please give us the numbers that show we will be ok with the move to FBS. There are many of us who are worried about the numbers as we have not seen them. If someone would give us the numbers then I think many of us would feel a little better. Lots of us really want to keep playing for a Nat Championship but may just let down our guard if we knew the financials were going to work.

We thought the world had come to an end when Sparky left......
And there was no secret agreement....a contract expired.

The silence is breaking my eardrums.

It was made public via goasu.com back in the spring. It showed that today App generates more revenue than over half of the Belt and more than one-third of the then CUSA members and that is without TV money and lower FBS game payouts. The numbers are available for your research if you look for them.

WOW. Thanks for the help but I hope that is not what they used to make a decision, and I would say the same if they decided to go the other way. I did see this a while back and thought it was just a PR brochure. I really hope there was a real report with lot more information than this and if not, I hope they didn't pay more than about $1000-$1500 dollars for it. As it is our money I think we are owed a lot more than this. We have a business school. Have we used them? I read a paper done by a student in the Sports Mgt program a few years back that was MUCH better than this. Don't mean to be a "smart guy" but I am very disappointed in this. As I have read that the vast majority of schools don't break even we need to be serious about this.
