one factore they never talk about is the amout of money schools make "wineing and dining" rich alumi during bowl week. There is no way to get accurate numbers, but programs need the bowls to show alumi that their donatations are being well spent, and more importantly, being justified in asking for more money.

Honest question? Will they still get big money donations if they get embarrassed on the field?

That's a good question. Will ASU continue to get the donations it does if they get embarrassed on the field...like the last three years in the playoffs? It appears ASU has been able to maintain and even increase donors and donations despite being "embarrassed" on the field. Unless, of course, we have different definitions of "embarrassed."

What is the average attendance for regular season MAC teams?

MAC avg regular season home games - 14,700
Eastern Michigan - 3,900 (low)
Ohio - 21,800 (high)

MAC has always had an overall problem with attendance and support. Using them as an example for attendance is a poor reference point.

There is also a supply and demand issue at play.

Not trying to debunk the entire article, as there are salient points, but just providing a few counter points to ponder.

How about the Sunbelt?
Average is 19,444
High 29,171 Louisiana Lafayette
Low 15,310
94% of stadium capacity is the highest so you don’t have sellouts.
We are not looking at conferences with high attendance to begin with.

You have talked me out of any desire for the administration to lead us in the direction of the MAC.

Evidently you're right in that we are not. But it begs the question, why not besides it being difficult to get into higher profile conferences?

Average attendance of SoCon verses either MAC or the Sunbelt?
Come on guys

It could take several years to be at the top of a new FBS conference. We have to be prepared for a transition period complete with BUMPS. Attendance should not be one of them.

Don't read into what I am saying. My refrence is that attendance does not mean much to our decision as all that we are looking at are about the same. Not as good as we are. I keep reading about how the ACC is going to come beat down our doors and we are just going to have to expand our facilities. That is just not true. We are very well prepared for a move to the type of conference we will be joining. Now what happend 15-20 years from now I have no idea but today we have all the facilities we need.

Well that is not difficult. We are not prepared to join an ACC or SEC at this time and the lower FBS schools for the most part don't draw large crowds above 40k. We actually will be near the top in attendance for the conference we will join.

FWIW, I had rather witness a home game in KBS with 30,000 fans than be on TV. But I know, that's just me.

FWIW, I would be way way disappointed if I flew several hundred miles to see App play one of the Louisiana directional schools (Louisiana -Lafayette or Monroe and there being only 17,000 or so fans. I don't mind driving down to Spartanburg and seeing a small crowd in Wofford's stadium..but that doesn't take hundreds of dollars of plane fares to do so.

I am with you on that. I really don't care about TV games. The fact is that I HATE tv games when I am at the game.

Well I have probably taken my last plane ride to a game as far as I can see at this point.

Would it help that the MAC schools are superior academically to the Sun Belt schools?

Where are you reading that nonsense? Appfan? That can be the only place where such stupidity is exhibited.

Call me crazy but I think moving to a conference where the opposing teams aren't 2 hours away will increase home attendance. There was no difficulty - in terms of travel - making 8 games this season. I think a portion of our fan base suffers from burn out by the end of the season and is probably a reason behind the poor attendance for the first playoff games.

Just to clarify it is not to have us join but to come play us. It is on appfan and on here, and yes it is nonsense.
