As hard as it is to say this, I think he is better than AE. I realy don't think it is even all that close. AE was great but he wasn't facing SEC defenses on a regular basis and I think that makes a huge difference. AE had a hard time staying healthy facing SoCon competition, imagine the beating he would have taken with a SEC schedule. After watching JM in many games this year, he just appears to be a much better QB.

It was meant as a compliment (and similarity) to both guys in their respective levels of football.

It's a good comparison. They are really identical type guys. I wonder how AE would have done if he would have had those 300lbers in front of him. We had a good O line in those days but nothing like what is front of Johnny Boy.

Considering the success of Russel Wilson this year and with JM dominating SEC defensees, I wonder if the NFL will say he is too small at 6 feet to play qb or if he will get a chance. My money says he will get a chance to play qb despite have the same size as AE who was deemed too small. Still wish AE would have stuck to his guns about playing qb instead of being so willing to play another position in the NFL. I think AE is a better qb then Russel Wilson and it still bothers me that he will never get a real chance to prove that to the world.

doesn't matter what the NFL says, look at the beating RGIII has taken.

AE would only be worse, he's too small. Manziel too.

He could do it for a while, but would be beat to $hit in the same style offense the skins are running.

My only point of this thread was these guys seem so similar as college players.

I was around AE a few times on campus and he was a little over 5-10, and thats counting his dreads. AE is still only listed as 190 on the NFL sites. Coming out of college he was probably 180 maybe. Manziel is listed as 6-1 200. Russell Wilson is listed as 5-11 206. Both those guys are bigger than AE. I wouldn't sell wilson short either. He is one hell of an athlete. He also has that killer instinct and confidence that AE never had in the NFL which is why AE is sitting on a bench and Wilson is starting on a playoff team. AE was an incredible player here at App but he was not an nfl qb. If he had stuck to his guns he would be in canada right now instead of sitting on a bench swimming in his 2.5 million dollar contract. We never will know if he ever got a real chance to show the world. Personally I think he did get the chance to show what he could do in the panthers practices. When you have players like him any nfl staff is going to see what all he can do when your organization trades up in the draft just to get him. If he was going to be an nfl qb he would have beaten out that pathetic jimmy clausen. As I said though I guarantee the panthers know his skill set inside and out.

It's hard to say what AE could have done against those defenses because he didn't have SEC talent all around him either. I'm not saying he is as good as Manziel, but there is no way to tell. I have no doubt AE could throw the ball on anyone. He was able to make every type of throw there is, and I think people who only focus on his running are forgetting how good he was as a passer. He was 1-1 against BCS teams though...

You might want to say Johnny Manziel and not JM. You might get accussed of starting a Jerry Moore hate thread. :o
