Re: Possible new LB?
I'm all about having as much talent as possible, but there is a part of me also that doesn't like the father/son thing on a team. There's always the potential of it undermining team cohesion and causing resentments if the son winds up starting. I'm sure Roof would handle the situation with integrity but it's a risk.

Totally agree. It’s almost a no win situation. Dabo has his son at Clemson and plays him sparingly. Boheim plays his son a good bit at Syracuse and he appears to be good. It’s probably better all around to have your kid play somewhere else. I’ve coached my sons in baseball when they were young and had to endure the “coaches kid” thing.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 4:11 amI'm all about having as much talent as possible, but there is a part of me also that doesn't like the father/son thing on a team. Re: Possible new LB?
I get the opinions above and I would agree with them if it was a skill position such as QB or RB where players get the majority of snaps. Defensive positions rotate in and out with far more frequency so I think that it may be an issue but to a lesser degree. There would be some positives to him coming in depending on which LB he plays. It would free up some of our true freshmen to get some work in and still maintain a RS as he would provide depth. But until he announces he is coming to App, it is a non-issuebigdaddyg wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 5:42 amTotally agree. It’s almost a no win situation. Re: Possible new LB?
Roof was the only hire on this staff that I was disappointed with and I believe many share my feelings about that. He's already going to be the most scrutinized assistant on the staff. We already have 6 or 7 capable linebackers on the roster. If Roof brings his son in and his son takes a spot from one of those 6 or 7, that is going to eff a lot of shiz up in the locker room. All those 6 or 7 are already sophomores through seniors with playing time under their belt and probably aren't going to like going backwards to RS.

Re: Possible new LB?
Let’s not put the cart before the horse here. We don’t know what his plans are. But look at from a team need. He looks to be a Bandit position guy. I.e. boundary side lb. we currently have a senior, a junior coming off surgery for a shoulder and a true freshmen. We could use him. He has playing experience. It isn’t like he can’t play. Let’s see how this plays out without getting our knickers in a twist.

Re: Possible new LB?
At this point, it's all speculation that he might even come to App. Personally, I wasn't at all disappointed with us hiring Roof. I know all the arguments from those who opposed him, but I simply disagree. If his son winds up coming here, hopefully his skill level is high enough that it doesn't raise issues. If he is a stud, then it could be a great thing. I'm sure that Roof knows all the issues involved. He isn't knew to it. I have concerns, but until there is a reason not to, I will trust the coaching staff.

Sons play for fathers all the time. Don't know the kid at all but he is obviously a P5 player and might actually help with the Roof transition. If he does come let's not pre-judge the situation.

2 schools already and has only burned 1 year of eligibility. Sounds like he's not very good and just bounces around looks for a place that'll play him.

He played in 11 games at Tech and 10 at Indiana.
2018 (Sophomore): Played in 10 games with one start (Maryland) on the weak-side ... collected 39 tackles, 30 solo, one sack and four tackles for loss ... recorded his first sack as a Hoosier with four solo stops in the Ball State win (9/15) ... made eight tackles, six solo, with one for loss at No. 3 Ohio State (10/6) ... delivered a game- and career-high 10 stops and eight solos in addition to one TFL in the Maryland victory (11/10) ... enrolled in spring classes and participated in practice.
2017 (Freshman): Attended Georgia Tech and played in all 11 games ... totaled 17 tackles with a pair of sacks and one quarterback hurry ... posted a season-high six stops, four solo, at Duke (11/18) ... collected both sacks in the Jacksonville State win (9/9) ... carded five multi-tackle games.
Prep/Personal: Linebacker and running back for head coach Jess Simpson at Buford High School ... two-time first team all-state and all-county selection ... Buford reached four state championship games during his career and won twice (2013, 2014) ... made 94 tackles, four sacks, seven for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and seven hurries as a senior ... added 459 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns ... parents are Pam and Ted Roof ... Re: Possible new LB?
Sounds to me like he left Georgia Tech when his father left and isn't happy with the landing zone. Let's not jump to conclusions without any actual information about his talent.

Re: Possible new LB?
We're all forgetting that Coach Roof is the DC and not the head coach. Even though he was hired to be the DC guess who has the final say into who starts and/or plays?
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I agree. Coach Drink will get the final say if he does transfer to App. With this being Coach Drinks first head coaching position, I figure he is looking at everything.

10 at Indiana in 2018? That conflicts with the info from the OP. He would not be eligible to play immediately if that were the case.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 9:28 amHe played in 11 games at Tech and 10 at Indiana.

The information above comes from the IU Athletic website. My guess is the OP is incorrect.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 10:10 am10 at Indiana in 2018? Yeah...The article itself has incorrect information. Which raises the question, would he be eligible next year?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 9:28 amHe played in 11 games at Tech and 10 at Indiana.
