This is a PSA that these pickups work both ways. Excited for this young man, but know the inverse will bite us sometime in the years to come.

I believe that we may lose some grad transfers and some that get buried on the depth chart. IMO very few starters to 2 deep will leave. As we’ve seen there are no guarantees of PT.

Isaiah did not get an offer from us out of high school because we had Noah Hannon and there wasn’t a spot for him. We are getting a grey player and an even better person.

Opens up a lot of possibilities. He can play , and as a wise man once said, you can't have too many quality offensive lineman.

All hail the portal. The portal giveth a DB.

In the 3 minutes of research since learning this player existed, it seems like he's a grad transfer from Wisconsin who was going to Buffalo, but since their coach left for Kansas, he's coming to Boone. Played at East Forsyth.

This is a big time pick up. He and Hennigan are close which probably helped grab him.

Lots of benefits by Cone playing up on the mountain. Since Kaiden is still a question mark for the 2021 season, Cone's arrival helps fill ranks that were somewhat thin. And I believe Cone will be a great influence/teacher for our talented (but still relatively young) secondary corps.

Was this due to injury in spring ball? I did read he got hurt. Wasn’t aware it was potentially season ending

Is it a big-time pickup? played in 17 games....26 tackles.

Probably depends on how one defines "big-time." I'm another one who only knows what I read in 2 minutes of research after he committed, but at a glance he sounds like he'll be able to contribute in multiple areas but won't necessarily start on defense unless there are further injuries.

TRANSFER COMMIT:

Another common theme here, Pearson knows this guy....similar to Hennigan knowing the other recent transfer... hopefully speaks to personality and culture which are big inside the locker room.

After watching his 2018 highlights, this young man is a very interesting add. He has good size, his athleticism shows on tape and has a mean streak/swagger which I love in a DB. But he hasn't played a game in essentially two years. What I can say though is the competition in the DB room this summer/fall is going to be FUN!

Agree. If he is as good or slightly better than the 2018 version of himself then I believe he will be a real good addition. I expect him to be on the field a lot.

Agreed. Might be a diamond in the rough, but definitely an interesting grab. Love what they are putting together for the DB position.

Just an observation. Our reaction to P5 transfers vs FCS is quite interesting. It seems We get overly excited about P5s “Big Get” and are rather muted about our former kin before we look at their production.

Help me understand how this transfer portal works. Are all of these guys we are adding from the portal actually selected by our coaches or are they just “committing “ to App? Secondly do we have scholarships for all of them? Seems like we really didn’t lose but 4 or so players from last year considering the ones who are coming back. How many did we lose to the portal?

Great point about how some here view the P5’s who transfer in versus the FCS or even G5’s. I find it interesting how recruiting works in particular for offensive linemen. Seems like if a kid isn’t 6’6” and 280 he isn’t going P5.

Being in the portal means that you are essentially a free agent and can be recruited by other schools. Yes. All of the players that we are bringing in have been recruited and offered a scholarship. Except for the kid from UNC. He is a PWO. We have to be back to 85 for next fall, which shouldn’t be an issue.

Here is the link to the portal for App. https://247sports.com/college/appalachi ... ferPortal/

It is very interesting. It may be something as simple as others using the transitive property with the transfers. If they come from a P5 they are inherently better than those who we have on our roster, likewise if they transfer from the FCS they are not as good as those on our roster. Obviously none of that is actually true. Personally I'm excited for all of our transfers, they all bring something different to our roster and competition breeds success. I'm all in on having every player work for playing time it will add an edge to our team. Go App!
