Thank you Old Timers :)
I wanted to take a minute to thank all of the guys that started the first message board on CNNSI which later moved to Delphi, and now here for all the time, effort, money, and passion they put into making today a reality. Many of them started the push to get ASU back to the top level of NCAA Football years before Al Gore's new creation came to be, but the start of online communities opened the door to getting passionate like-minded alumni together to share ideas. For some this has been a 30+ year endeavor, and I think all of us that are cheering this move today owe a great deal of gratitude to these fans. Obviously they are only a piece of the puzzle, but I honestly believe we would not have seen the tremendous amount of growth (much less FBS football) in Appalachian Athletics without their efforts. I won't name anyone specifically, but they know who they are. To each of you, thank you and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Re: Thank you Old Timers :)
I've been lurking around App since 1966. I was a baby but I was still carted to football and basketball games in diapers. I guess 45+ years can put me in the close to old timers catagory. I wish my mom, dad, 3 aunts and 2 uncles had lived to see this. I'm glad the other 14 members of my family who attended App are happy today.

Re: Thank you Old Timers :)
I have been awaiting this day since 1982........ and I was almost in tears as I listened to the presser..
I want to say thanks to Chancellor Peacock, Charlie Cobb, Jerry Moore for building the foundation, Scott Satterfield for wanting to take over the football program as it returns to it rightful place.
I also want to thank every athlete from Jack Groce to Bob Agle, to Gerald Adams, to Robbie Price, to Steve Brown, to Rick Beasley to Bjorn Nittmo to Armanti Edwards for what they did to make this day possible
I am also thinking of Kidd Brewer and Coach Duggin and his boys as well as Press Maravich, Bobby Cremins, Vaughn Christian, Francis Hoover, Bob Britenstein...et all.
All of the above as well as every fan who has inhabited the old stadium, The Rock, Broome-Kirk and Varsity Gym and the HCC......all have made this day the most important one to ASU in my forty plus year affiliation with my beloved alma mater.
Thank you also to the SoCon for giving us birth into Division 1 sports.......
The coming days for App State athletics and for the University are brighter than the SUN......I'm counting down the days to July 1st 2014....and for when Mountaineer Football takes the field in a few months against Montana...
GO APPALACHIAN!!!!!

Re: Thank you Old Timers :)
That's because most of them have no idea what this is really about. All they hear is "no more championships" and "no name bowl games". In two or three years we will more than likely be in a more regional conference with a full playoff system again and will be competing with teams that are more in line with us. And many of the schools we are leaving behind we be playing true D-II football. No thanks. I'll take my chances at a possibility of a future instead of a dying division.

Some our fans are morons. Seriously, if you don't know what division your school plays in your opinion is null and void.
Glad you set her straight in the reply Beau.Chancey Sumner Stupid move. D1 isn't the answer. People love ASU for what it is. Now you move up and play in a league no one cares about and travel all over the place.

Glad it's finally done but kind of disappointed to see the "finally playing DI" comment. That's the kind of ill informed mentality we have fought forever.

99% of the folks bitching and moaning about this on FB are upset that they'll have to make the choice between their alma mater and one of those stupid blue schools down east.RankinApp wrote:Some our fans are morons. Re: Thank you Old Timers :)
It's been a long haul since I sat in Dean Bob Breitenstein's office in 1962 and listened to his tales about coaching at Miami and his teams playing in the (old) Orange Bowl Stadium. That's when I began to dream about what it would take to build that type of program at little ol' Appalachian. I can only say we've come a loooong way, baby. There are dozens of loyal Appalachian supporters who contributed to our progress over the years--too many to name here. Sadly, quite a few of them never lived to see this day. I hope Lester Hardin has called a special Mountaineer Club meeting in heaven to spread the good news; and that Mike Sollecito is preparing the meal.
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.

Re: Thank you Old Timers :)
First I want to say thank you! Like JT I want to thank the old school APP guys who have pushed or pulled this issue to the fore, for years. Thanks for keeping the issue in focus when I could not. Honestly, I moved away and did not get back to Boone much until '89 or so. Then children came and again I honestly spent my time with them....(Camilla would disagree)...as she says they were brainwashed at birth.
I made a lot of the late season games over the years as the boys "sports" would be over by November in most years. Both boys go to ASU and I could not be prouder. We were able to get all the NC games and every playoff game since 2002. Then in 2009 Nick came to APP and NOTHING has been the same!
Today my youngest Tyler was at the Presser taking pics for ASU Athletics. I was in a meeting and couldn't watch....(sounds like it would not have done me much good to try)....I texted Tyler and ask: R we in? His response: We R FBS.
I wrote back: One day you might understand how much this means to many of us old heads. (I was thinking about what it felt like to play Wake, South Carolina, ECU, Marshall etc. on a yearly basis).
Tyler txt back: We got this for you guys!
That is what I want now more than anything....let's do this right and let's show the world again what it is to be a MOUNTAINEER!
I am grateful that we finally made it back! I look forward to many great years of football for the place I dearly love!
Thanks again guys! I was not there always but I am glad to be here now!
